Pardon if it's the wrong category to post...need urgent assistance - HP pavilion DV5
#1
Confused
Hi Admins & fellow forum-ers!
I just joined this site as i'm in a predicament whether to turn OFF my laptop or not.
I tried to flash the bios from within Vista using HP given flash .exe program and laptop if frozen for 9 hours now ...and I have posted on HP website forum with no replies yet.

laptop: HP DV5-1053 TX
Os: Vista Home premium 32bit
Original Flash: F.05  released 2008(came with laptop)
New Flash trying: F.21

Board ID 3603

I downloaded the flash exe file and ran as admin.. the Insyde Flash utility detected current board and flash version and i clicked to proceed.
the blue progress bar went to near finish quickly but stuch at the last inch.
Utility shows " Erasing and Writing"
HDD light is solid white ...doesn't even flicker
no cursor, beep, mouse movement

Its been 9 hours now like this...i fear if i turn it off it won;t turn on.

Please advice what to do...is it bricked? if so...how to recover/roll back to original flash using USB

I'm fairly technical not much... so bear with me and advice step by step.

Thanking You
forallz

Have You the original F.05 installer file ?
Or have You done a Bios Backup before installing F.21 ?
Can You look into HD using a different pc and copy the
contains and folder's Structure of It (all folders and files) ?
There is into the previous Bios F.05 and the actual F.21 !
So upload them here and I will try to help You to Recover
your laptop !
Let me know

Hello, friend!
I have same laptop and i will help you to recover Bios.
Please, read text below and compare it with you cause.
1. Laptop not turn on and led-indicators not blinking when Power button pressed.
Description: Boot Block damaged so only HW SPI Programmer can solve this problem. A Laptop must be disassembled and bios chip will soldered out.
We can't help you in this cause.
2. Laptop turn on and led-indicators blinked but screen is black.
Description:Boot Block not damaged so we can restore your Bios without HW SPI Programmer.
Follow next steps:
1.Prepare USB Stick and format it in FAT32.
2.Set it label "HP_Recovery"
3.Put in formatted drive this saved dump
http://rghost.net/876fbtVd6
4.Dettach battery and AC adapter from laptop.
5.Press next keys win (it have icon as Start icon in Windows)+B and not stop pressing.
6.Attach AC adater to laptop and after 3 sec press Power button.
7.Laptop starts, indicators will be blinking, wait 4 seconds and stop pressing that keys. Laptop give some beeps, usb can be blinked and fan speed will be increased.
8.After this procedure laptop will be turn off automatically.

Hi, BDMaster!
DV5 and HP DV6 models until middle of 2009 are very good laptops for getting an experience of BIOS modding.
That bioses are not RSA signed and can be restored easily if Boot Block not damaged.
I made many manipulations with Bios menu, deep modding (for ex. unhide Fan and chipset control for AMD platforms).
I found good option in IDE configuration named SATAHotPlug. It is actual for 4 devices (first hdd, second hdd-if 17 inch laptop, odd and removable hdd to e-sata port). As default, only 4 device have SataHotPlug enabled. I removed ODD and plug second hdd caddy then switch ENABLED for 2 hdd. I can change HDD without restarting OS and hdd volumes can be initialized online-good opton.
But this working at Intel platforms only. I don't like AMD platforms because it haven't useful options, more loudness and not so power saving as Intel.
At reading mode Intel working for 4 hours from battery, AMD for 2,5 hours.
Also North Bridge malfuntion is famous reason if laptop not start at once Big Grin

Hi mate,
I know this as the Modded and Flashable is last Bios available on this laptop
HP introduced RSA Signature into 2010 and at 12-2011 all Bioses were RSA Internal Checked !
So after 11-2011 We cannot reflash a Bios Mod as there are Modules deputate to make
Checks before rewrite all Bios Code into Eeprom Chip (Donovan made a SUPER research) !
All Credits to discover this knowledgement gooes to Donovan6000 (Donovan6k) and after
CodeRush explorated all modalities to using that and bypass this lock !
The Bios Mod RSA Patched reflash is possible actually only by an SPI PGM or as I have
done over a Bios Reflashable so use the first Bios (if exist) with a not RSA Internal check
like a Door and over It You Flash the "bad" Bios Mod RSA Patched and doing this You can
try all Bioses Wink
Actually HP doesn't stay to obseve passively, but is going to chenge It and all discovered
so far is an working progress with changements !
I am doing a research and make collection of Bios Dump to get my private "album trophy"
Everyone has their own quirks Wink
Regards

P.S. nice works your and nice explaination !

Thank You so so much.. for such detailed steps to both BD Master & DA Vinci.

I got lucky ..i guess coz I let the laptop on for straight 20+ hours and then pulled off mains supply ......i guess because the battery ran out and the system shut itself off... I could turn it back on again.. well at least its my assumption.

Otherwise ... all other cases all over the net points to a corrupt bios after such drama... Big Grin and I's sure that would be my fate too.

Funny thing now when i check in bios the version has updated to F.21 ....not sure why the whole laptop just stayed frozen for so long.

Now i installed new OS on it and its running smooth ....so far.

Thanks again to both of you...

cheers
