Pegatron M2N68-LA/HP Narra3-GL8E: CPU Upgrade
#41
i have found one from pcupgrade.co.uk

http://www.pcupgrade.co.uk/productdetails.asp?ProductID=8024&categoryid=562

but it has a different model number than the 2 you gave me..do you think it will still work ?

what with all the flooding in thiland and HD prices going through the roof i am happy to wait for a while, bit of shame really cuz i could do with one...never mind, if it's just my HD lowering my WEI score then thats fine i can live with that.

i have a spare hd 3450 which is fine with movies so if all goes to plan and i get a new cpu then in 1 or 2 yrs i'll probably just give this one along with the 3450 to my parents, they'll like that..not really into pc's and upgrading only surfin the net, it'll be fine for them.

Hi,

I've got a HP Pavilion a6511.uk that has a M2N68-LA (NARRA3) motherboard with bios version 5.14, it current has a AMD 64 x2 4600 processor. I want to upgrade the processor to a AMD Phenom x4 9500 processor. The HP support pages specify that the board supports this processor, but when I install it I get nothing. By nothing I mean the PC powers up (no flashing power light or beep codes) but I get no video at all (tried onboard video and graphics card).

I believe that BIOS v5.17 may have the support I'm looking for, can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hi,

According to the official HP documentation, your motherboard supports the following:-

Quote:Socket type: AM2+
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt)
Athlon 64 less than 4000+
Sempron less than 3800+

Based on this info , the x4 9500 should work fine Smile

Upgrading to the latest available BIOS version is always recommended before attempting a CPU Upgrade.

I was unable to locate v5.17 for the Narra3 board, looks like v5.14 is the latest on the HP Site!!

Update: Searching around, there IS a v5.17! but it seems to be for the Narra3-GL8E , not your motherboard!

Actually, checking the HP site it lists my motherboard as Narra3-GL8E (HP Pavilion a6511.uk).

So it may be worth me trying that bios update, can you point me to it?

Thanks

-bios link
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software9/COL21072/pv-55440-1/sp37190.exe

was looking at the foxcon MCP61 and molded abit ( https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-HP-MCP61PM-HM-Nettle2-5-27-With-Unlocked-Overclocking-Options ) as it has the same chip set MCP61 and these are know for unlocking all boards but flashing using this command awdflash M613Z_19.BIN /py /sn /f /cc /cd /cp /wb /r gives the error unknown flash type.

-whats happens: does not post no output to monitor no beep error codes ( does the same thing with an x4 965 BE but that is an 125w part but that is expected to not work )

-screenshot from aida64>motherboard>cpuid
N/A as it wont post cpuz form different mother board is above.
-CPU spec code N/A

thank you people for all your help this has been an great resource for me so far just truing to get this to work for an uber budget secondary gaming rig.
I have an hp pavilion a6700z, which is my spare desktop pc, which has a narra3 board. Try updating your bios to version 5.14 using this link: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Har...d-p/711645
DO NOT use version 5.49, as it bricks most motherboards, and has a very low success rate. I am using a phenom 9850, which is a 125 watt cpu in this pc perfectly fine. Also, i didn't expect that bios flash to work, since the bios that Asus made for the original motherboard doesn't even work on the slightly modified hp boards. The cpu is technically unsupported, but it does work fine in these motherboards, it should show up as a generic "AMD CPU", but once you boot into windows and start cpuz, it should report the correct cpu model.

try the v5.63 BIOS from here.

I originally had bios v5.10 for my HP m8417c computer using an M2N68-LA Narra3-GL8E board and successfully updated to v5.63 almost a few years ago.

Hi guys/gals

I got HP Pavillion m9161.sc and it got the M2N68-LA MCP61P Narra2 motherboard with v5.13 bios. I downloaded the v5.63 BIOS that erpster9e provided.
I`m not shure that I`m comfortable with upgrading bios, but can anyone tell me how to flash the sp49108.exe or send me in a direction to where it is explained.
I think I can connect an old floppy if necesseary.

I`ve been trying to upgrade from win7 to win10 pro, but I get an error: The installation failed in safe_os phase with an error during apply_image operation, sooooooo....
4 gb ram, probably upgradable to 8gb.

The dinosaur has arrived! Wink
