Can somebody enable all advanced Menus? I even was able to manage it to get a dump text file - but i dont know how to change the variables, that ADVANCED isnt hidden anymore. can somebody help me? thank you! I attached my txt file. maybe it can be helpful. is it somehow possible to flash a modded version of that RSA-Signed bios without bricking my notebook without an external chip? thank you in advance.

THIS TOPIC mostly for newest notebooks (2012-2013 years) ONLY with RSA signed BIOSes, when Phoenix tool can't open your rom file.

3 weeks ago, when I came to this forums I was a newbie for BIOS modding or accessing it's hidden options.

But I searched a lot of information over internet and found some smart hints.

Having a huge programming skills in disassembling and ASN.1 data reading/parsing I realized a good way to change bios settings without modding.

I have HP Pavillion dv7 7171er with Insyde H2O RSA signed bios.

I found the way how to get it decrypted but all attempts to flash modded bios with patched DLL was unsuccessful. Each time I had to recover my Laptop with Win+B restoring.

On 15th time when by laptop was bricked again I decided to disassemble Setup Menu and found where needed options for me are hidden and how to access them for changes.

So here is small part of decompiled Setup Menu.

As you can see, it is realy represent's what we see in reality.

So now I need 2-3 BIOSes to proof my concept.

If you need to enable AHCI for example of change something else. please post you BIOS links here.

I will test and after 100% success I will write GUIDE and provide source code.

IMPORTANT: This is related only newest BIOSes which are not encrypted.
If it is RSA signed, you will need additional steps. I will inform you in this case.

got it, but i need a bit more of your help first, the .log file, what do i do with it, cant seem to find a Tut...

1. Take USB stick and format to FAT32
2. Create directory structure EFI\Boot
3. Download BOOTX64.EFI
4. Put downloaded file to Boot directory.
5. Restart and enter BIOS setup.
6. Make sure you have following values:
Legacy Support: Disable
Secure Boot: Disable
7. Reboot and press F9 to boot from USB stick
8. HOW TO CHANGE:
For example you want to change

Select option: 'Throttle On Temperature'        [ VarStore: '0x1aa', QuestionId: '0x78',   Help: 'Set the CPU temperature point of Throttle On']

give command setup_var 0x1aa

look at log file. Default value for your bios is

so you should get 85 as value. (HEX 0x55)

Try to change for example to 40 degree.

give command setup_var 0x1aa 0x28

28 is HEX for 40 DEC

9. Now Reboot
10. Start some CPU stress test (AIDA64 for example) and check performance
You can also try to play with Fan speed temperature.

HI, AHCI is not interested, but need to change power state and advanced menus. My HP 17-ak097ur has battery drain while off, 13-17% per day. I think the solution hide in BIOS. Please help, if you can. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp87001-87500/sp87058.exe
