[REQUEST] ASUS N56VZ BIOS Unlock
#41
And they worked with the 211 BIOS version?
[/quote]

YES. I don't know what advice to give you, I had read this thread ...

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Hi, Have you tried with AMI BIOS RECOVERY procedure?
If you press CTRL + HOME and Power ON your laptop, the keyboard lights up for 1 to 2 seconds ?

I tried CTRL + Home, and Win key + C. The keyboard lights up for less than a half second. Thanks for the suggestion though! Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

I read the AMI BIOS recovery and have a couple of questions:

How do I use a floppy disk if my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive? If I bought an external floppy drive, would that work?
Where do I download the 211 BIOS update?

1) Format a USB FLASH in FAT or FAT32 (better with small capacity). 2)Download the bios from ASUS site, RENAME the file AMIBOOT.ROM AND COPY IT on USB. 3) Remove battery and unplugged A/C, insert USB FLASH on 1st USB on right. 4) Press CTRL + HOME, insert plugged A/C and press POWER ON. 5) The keyboard lights up for 1 second, after the LED of USB FLASH light on, and begins to load the bios, after a few minutes the LED goes out... it's ALL DONE!

Yea, it's fried. I tried your suggestion and it didn't work. I think I need a new motherboard. Any idea what kind I need?

Thanks for all the ideas though!

If when you press CTRL + Home, the keyboard lights up for less than a half second, it's not fried; surely, you wrong something in the recovery process

I try to modify my bios and i have the same problem. I cant flash the modded bios. I just need fan controls unlocked in the bios.

Did you managed to recover your PC ?

Nope, haven't gotten it recover. If your N56VZ ever dies and the motherboard is good, let me know!

Is there any other way to overclock the i7 3610QM in this laptop? I tried SetFSB but it didn't recognize the clock generator. Intel XTU overclocking options are already greyed out...

There has to be some way to do it.

Recently I contacted the SetFSB programmer. He told me that he should know which the clock generator the laptop uses in order to add support. So I should unscrew and look for it. He said it is written somewhere around the cpu socket. But I don't know how to unscrew and take out the motherboard. Maybe Taynk can do it.

I took apart my laptop so I could find out what Mothedboard it uses, to maybe find a replacement but I looked and nobody was selling that model, so I contacted Asus and sent it in for repairs. I wish I could help you!

I can tell you how to take it apart if you want.

Hey,

Got something similar on my N56VZ laptop. I tried to upgrade the BIOS (from v 211 to v215) and now I cannot revert it to v211. When I Power On it goes automatically on BIOS settings, and it wont boot up. Everytime I try to use the Easy Flash Utility it won't downgrade, it gives the "Build is too old" message.

I did what user "goldrec" suggested earlier, I clicked Power On + Home and Easy Flash started erasing Flash, it took a while, then started programming Flash, it verified and then the machine was shut down. I restarted, but no luck, just a black screen. After a couple of times of powering on and off the same stupid BIOS v215 came up with no option to boot.

Any ideas would greatly appreciated. I am moving to Germany at the end of the week and I'm sure Asus will need more than a week to repair it.

I'm in serious trouble. Any suggestions at all?

@goldrec, can you please describe the AMI BIOS recovery procedure more thoroughly?

Thanks everyone
M
