where (and how) can i update it from official sources?

My bookmarks were saved almost 20 years ago and most of them lead to HTTP 404 now.
Only Acer site is official. If Acer site doesn't host BIOS for this model anymore, then you need to check other unofficial sources. Maybe https://web.archive.org/ still has a backup copy? Sorry I'm lazy, please search yourself.

There's minimal benefit in upgrading BIOS or modding BIOS for this 20-year-old machine. Actually the risks outweigh the benefit. I think you should move on. There are better things to spend time on.
