Hello everyone.

I am probably on the right place (because i am the owner of Aspire 5745G with a i7-720QM). I have a question about cpu fan speed on my 5745G, namely can it be controled via BIOS ?

I spend last few days observing CPU temps (CORE TEMP) and relevant cpu fans speeds. I think that the CPU fan rotation speed is not adequate.

Example:

on start up :
cpu temp = 58 C
fan-speed =very slow (level 1)

after 2-3 minute (there is no user activity on notebook) :
cpu temp = 48 C
fan-speed =very slow (level 1)

there is light activity on laptop :
cpu temp = 54 C
fan-speed = a slightly faster than at the start (level 2)

there is moderate to heavy activity on laptop :
cpu temp = 70 C
fan-speed = a bit faster than in case of light activity (level 3)

there is extra heavy activity on laptop, all cores are on 100 % :
cpu temp = 81 C
fan-speed = very fast (level 4)

Then i started to use RW Everything and i was able to detect a bit who controls cpu fan speed (it is 50x0E, can be seen on a pic). Initial value of 50x0E is consistent with the value of 50x05 and it is value of 02. If i put the value of 13 into 50x0E, the cpu fan spins up much faster, i can say on the level 3. But, if the value of 50x05 is changing (because of cpu temp change!), the value of 50x0E is also changing (it drops) and cpu fan spins down, slower and slower, to the level 1. So, it must be manually set back to value of 13.

Now, the most important question for me is: can you modify the BIOS so i can control the CPU fan speed from BIOS ?

Thank you in advance.

SOLVED WITHOUT NEED FOR THE BIOS MOD !

For all users who own Acer Aspire 5745G with latest BIOS (1.19), i will explain how to manually control a cpu fan and how to lower a CPU and overall temp's. :-)

1. Download RW EVERYTHING 1.5.2 (i am using a zip version).(http://rweverything.myweb.hinet.net/download.html)

2. Unrar RW EVERYTHING. Open a folder and start RW.exe.

3. Click on the EC icon and EC window will be shown .

4. Change value of 50x05 to 91 and value of 50x0E to 13
(see on the pic !!!)

Wait a short time, listen to louder noise from cpu fan and look at the cpu temp monitor. :-) :-) :-)

5. Close RW windows.

Enjoy.

Hi! I'd just like to request that someone please unlock my BIOS's graphics mode setting

It's grayed out, but I know it won't break anything, because it wasn't grayed out on older versions of the BIOS.

Here's my current BIOS: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5332200/ZR7x64EC.fd

Thanks SO much to anyone that does this.
