Hello, I found this thread while searching for ways to update/fix this laptop I bought. I've followed your instructions and attached my vars.txt file. *edit - I only need AMD-V enabled so that virtualization will work.
Still trying to figure out which bits to change but I have no idea.

You need to put the vars_mod_FerchogtX.txt file in the folder with the H2OUVE.exe file and execute the following command in an administrative command prompt in that folder:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars_mod_FerchogtX.txt
H2OUVE will update the NVRAM area of the BIOS and after a reboot the new setting should be active.
This method will only enable AMD-V and not mess with any of the other settings of your BIOS.
In case you want to revert to default, you can go back to default with the following command:
H2OUVE.exe -sv vars.txt
Using the reset to defaults option in the BIOS would work, too.
Aplied your file... AND THIS IS JUST AMAZING! Thank you so much for this, you have no idea how I appreciate your help and you being able to fix this setting for our systems. This worked wonders! Now I can use AMD-V for WMware, and the virtual machines work blazingly fast!

Ahh, also, even if you reboot your system or shut it down, the status remains the same, at least for me, it always says enabled, as well as in my software.

H2OUVE.exe -sv vars_mod_muvvas.txt
H2OUVE will update the NVRAM area of the BIOS and after a reboot the new setting should be active.
The safer alternative would be to use H2OUVE to change the settings you want.
It's not as comfortable as making the changes directly in the BIOS, but it is also usable for all settings.

@mclarke2355 Thanks for your support,it worked for me.now i am able to see the vt is working on MY laptop.

I have a little doubt! One person with the same model of my laptop tried the BIOS update from acer site to fix their display banding problems... but sadly, besides having that fixed, they get their RAM cut half (7.45 GB instead if 15.5 to use) and the processor doesn't seem to achieve the correct speed (3.40 GHz with turbo instead of the max 2.50) Is there any chance we can change this settings in the Bios so he can get back the normal behavior of the RAM and processor?
If so, I assume you need the vars.txt file, correct? Ill ask the user to generate one so you can evaluate his problem, and post back to you.

His specs:
Aspire E5-553-1786
Windows 10 (I assume the latest)
BIOS: v1.18
Currently, AMD-V is disabled and the BIOS update cut his RAM in half (Instead of 15.5 GB usable, he gets 7.5)
He checked some tests with his processor, and seems to be working normal with the turbo core technology (goes up to 3.40 or even 3.45 GHz if stressed enough) so he just needs the AMD-V enabled, as well as restoring back his available RAM to 15.5 GB instead of 7.5 GB (In case this last is possible) I suppose this has to do with some VideoRAM memory allocation option in the BIOS (IIRC, this R7 accelerator can adress up to 4 GB... or 6 GB or VRAM, depending on the configurations given... I can be wrong, though)
@mclarkke2355 Thank you very much! AMD-V is enabled. I compared the files and saw what was changed. If you have the time, do you know of other resources for learning how to do these modifications other than what I find in the tutorials section of the forums?

The changes are two bits in the Setup section, setting 0xEE and clearing 0x14D (if I am counting hex right).
My E0 and 140 lines are identical with the unmodded Fertchogtx lines. Should I just set/clear these two bits in my vars? Please make me a modded vars file if there is more to it than that, and thanks in advance.
Any chance you could summarize what these bits are? If there is a doc floating around describing various bits to twiddle, I'd sure like to get a look at it.
Lastly, I'm hesitant to upgrade the bios (current is 1.18 I think), wouldn't put it past Acer to 'fix' the bios so their crippling can't be undone. Any advice from anyone about the newer bioses would be appreciated.
