[REQUEST] Asus A550JK & K550JK & X550JK BIOS Unlock
#21
You have ME 9.xx - Please go to this thread and in the section "C" download the matching ME System Tools Package (ie if ME FW version = 10.x get V10 package, if 9.0-9.1 get V9.1 package, if 9.5 or above get V9.5 package etc)
https://www.win-raid.com/t596f39-Intel-Management-Engine-Drivers-Firmware-amp-System-Tools.html

Once downloaded, inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and inside that a Windows or Win/Win32 folder. Select that Win folder, hold shift and press right click, choose open command window here (Not power shell). At the command prompt type the following command and send me the created file to modify >> FPTw.exe -bios -d biosreg.bin

Please also include one image of each main BIOS page with the above file (Main, advanced, security, boot, save and exit etc)

I don't see any fan controls, but you can change the thermal settings (trip points etc), and energy performance settings, power limits etc.

Yeah, that should do the trick at least. Getting the tool now. Big Grin

Also, uh, what do you mean by "open command prompt here" thing? All I saw was only this when I do what you told me to.

EDIT: I figured it out, doing the command right now.

Whelp.. the tool doesn't work, it throws error 200 whenever I try to type the command in. What do I do?

Anyway, got the screenshots. Here they are. Looks like I was too excited and skipped reading a little.  Tongue

You must open command prompt exactly as I described it, so it's an admin command prompt. Your image in #4 does not look like anything I describe, please read my instruction again and do it just how I explained.

Unsure if you got it or not????

*Edit I guess not, I don't see any biosreg.bin file

I finally figured how it works (phew!), but I get an "access denied" error in command prompt when I entered the command. Anything I'm missing here? Sorry for the delay too, I was busy for a bit.

That is not admin command prompt, that is the issue. You must open the command prompt exactly as I described.

Since you are on Win10, you may need to do this first >> stuck on Win10 and cannot easily get proper admin command prompt, and method I mentioned above does not work for you, here is some links that should help

Well, uh. I'm actually using windows 8.1. Can you give me the way to do it?

EDIT: I made it! The instruction you gave me on your first reply was a little wrong, the FPTw.exe doesn't work for me, so I changed it to use the other .exe in the folder. Which is the fptw64.exe. Big Grin

I believe, in Win8.1, you can still follow my exact directions I gave initially - never mind, I see you got it!

FPTw.exe should work fine for you, 32/64 does not matter in these cases, probably/maybe you didn't have admin prompt open with regular FPTw?
I use and suggest the use of FPTw not FPTw64 all the time on x64 system and no one ever has issues, nor do I, so I assume it's probably the Admin prompt thing when you were first getting it sorted out.

Your BIOS has BIOS Lock enabled, so before you can flash mod FPT BIOS you have to unlock this. I made a guide, you can start at step #6, because I've done #1-5 for you
https://www.win-raid.com/t3908f16-GUIDE-Grub-Setup-Var-Guide-Fix-Intel-FPT-Error-BIOS-Lock-Bit-Set-HSFS-W-Asus-or-Other-Mod-BIOS.html

BIOS Lock variable >> 0xAB
Rename .efi file to >> Shellx64.efi

So at grub prompt you will type the following >> setup_var 0xAB 0x0
Then reboot to windows and you can now flash mod BIOS via FPT

Here is unlocked BIOS, if anything still missing you see in AMIBCP let me know or send new images etc and I will unlock the rest
I enabled chipset, and many settings & submenus originally hidden from you Advanced - if Chipset still not visible let me know, I left out one edit for this in case it's not required.
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=96948658955743596209

Flash via >> FPTw.exe -bios -f biosregMBCP.bin

DO NOT adjust graphics related settings unless/until you have a hardware flash programmer + SOIC8 test clip cable in your hands

I think I bricked my laptop, it won't boot up after I flashed the bios. Before that the fptw tool also gave me a size mismatch error. What do I do now? I'm super scared right now..
