[REQUEST] Asus ROG Strix GL702ZC BIOS Unlock
also the jumper on the left side of the main board with the usb port pointed at your lap should be set on 1,2 and not 2,3.

The cable and jumpers are correct connected. I tried different software editions with or without the 1.8v board and it still could not read anything. My last try was under linux and it´s not working there, too. I think that the programmer itself is broken or faulty. I will send it back to receive a new one. Maybe next week i get a new one.

that sound like a good plan.

Buena suerte, señor. ¿Dónde podríamos hacer una donación para ayudar con este proyecto?
Actualizar Ryzen Gl702zc a la serie 3000 o (5000) sería genial.

Last week, my new spi programmer arrived. As i mentioned before, my old ch341a programmer was faulty. Thank god, the new one is working flawlesy!
One thing you should know is following: You don´t need the 1.8v adapter, just the programmer with the clip cable, nothing more! My first readings and programming failed, because of the 1.8v adapter. It is reading the bios, but when i make  the blank check i´ve got the „chip are not null“ error. Sometimes it was okay but then when i try to write the bios chip it fail´s, too because of invalid bios data. So i disconnected the adapter and all went good now.
My second try was to make a BIOS crossflash. This was done with the asus prime b350m-k BIOS. It was only for testing purpose to see if the laptop could work with a desktop BIOS. It´s not working with it, it´s completely dead. No power, no charging indicator, nothing. So the only way to get new features in the BIOS is to modify the existing one!
I hope that one of the bios mod guy´s is reading here to have a look at my bios and could enable and modify it?
I need unlocked menu´s for ram speed and timing, unlocked cpu menu´s for voltage/multiplier control, maybe some mainboard controls could enabled, too? And the last big question: Could agesa and microcode changed/added to use newer ryzen cpu´s from 2xxx and 3xxx series? Could it be useful to extract microcode/agesa code from a desktop mainboard and add or replacing the codes in the gl702zc BIOS?
Now i think i wrote enough and we should came back to topic again :-)
BIOS dump made via ch341a programmer, tested 100% working

Are you able to uprage the CPU with this BIOS?

Can anyone post the modded bios somewhere else? Host has removed it.

You'd need to use a CPU of the same TDP (voltage and amperage) that has the same init process. Microcode updates are *NOT* necessary, just initialization aka init. Microcode is a bit like firmware in that the CPU can be given microcode to overlay its own during init or even at a later point, such as how Windows & Linux can use microcode for PCs without BIOS updates. As long as the CPU can be initialized, it *should* be possible. (I'm only adding this bit because I saw a few “we need microcode updates for that” posts, which is incorrect.) There are exceptions...and sometimes that occurs for laptops.

Also, for everyone curious: When unplugged, the laptop will run 8C16T (8 cores, 16 threads) at 600MHz. The BIOS is the one informing the system itself that it must do that when it is unplugged, presumably to protect the batteries from drawing too much current to stay alive. Linux and Windows will, by default, respect this and not interfere. It can be overridden...but I would not recommend drawing from these batteries like that. However...if the configuration could be changed, it'd make the laptop far more useful. Instead of all 8-cores 16-threads running at 600MHz, perhaps just disabling 6 cores (12 threads) to run as a 2-core 4-thread would draw the same current and be far faster? Say 2.4GHz per core instead? 8C16T@600MHz and 2C4T@2.4GHz would, by numbers, have the same processing power, maybe current draw might be close enough to current drawn with stock behavior to justify it. The single-thread performance would greatly reduce hitching and lag caused by 600MHz instead. No idea why ASUS didn't do this out of box... I don't mind the GPU downclocking and the CPU as well, but that's too little with way too many cores.

I made a custom battery pack out of 18650s for this laptop. The pain in the butt BMS was difficult to reliably weld the leads to, but I'm up to double battery life. Not that it matters much, considering it's crap to begin with xD. The 18650s I have also won't swell up like the stock battery. Best part is, the batteries themselves aren't welded/soldered in, they're replaceable, woo! ...Twice as long to charge, meh. Wish I had a 3D-printer though, ugly as all git of a setup.

If you're curious about the STOCK pinout of the BMS (serial only, each cell is ~4V, 4500mAh):
VP->BAT0+, positive rail for laptop
VM1->BAT1-
VH1->BAT0-
VH2->BAT1+
VM2->BAT3+
VG->BAT4-, negative rail for laptop
VL1->BAT3-
VL2->BAT4+

I merely went with 18650s and hooked up twice as many *IN PARALLEL* TO EACH CELL without disturbing the series after initially charging each "two-cell cell" with a BMS to get them nearly balanced well enough in charge to prevent issues when first charging. If you're not an electronics engineer or do not understand this, DO NOT ATTEMPT. You can blow things up accidentally.

Thinking about modding the bottom of my laptop to add in a battery 'bay' but I'd need a 3D-printer for that, meh. Custom bottom halfs and battery packs with DIY guide using stock BMS...people'd need a 3D-printer, a high-volt welder (for leads to BMS). Meh.

Also, many thanks to draklrd for his posted bin a while back, which allowed me to rescue my own laptop. I removed the win license and changed everything to match my own system details.

No, it won´t work. I already did test it.

As we know that only asus could help us to enable support for zen+ i was thinking about that all owners with a gl702zc should open a supprt ticket and send this to asus.
I allready have contact here in germany with asus, but at first they won´t make a new bios update because of some validation prozedure.
I can´t make this alone, but when we could work together maybe asus should think about to release a new bios version. If somebody knows a forum or other places with some people who are still owning this laptop, give this people informations that they all open a support ticket and fill this text in it:

Asus GL702ZC BIOS request

Dear Asus,

i´m an owner of the asus gl702zc laptop. This unit uses a modified desktop mainboard instead of laptop hardware. It´s a mainboard with an amd b350 chipset and amd ryzen 5 1600 cpu.

The cpu is socketed (am4) and could be replaced by another one. However, this is very strictly limited by asus. The only cpu types i know when this laptop was sold was the ryzen 5 1600 or 7 1700 cpu.

I was hoping that asus is making a new bios update to use zen+ (ryzen 2xxx, 3xxx) cpu´s, but the last bios that was made is from 2019 and is still using agesa 1.0.0.7

Today it is not possible to use newer ryzen cpu´s. In the future, new operating systems like windows 11 or linux/unix need prozessors with special security featrures that first gen ryzen cpu´s don´t have.

So it could be that those systems couldn´t work or updates where disabled for this. All asus AMD mainboards intorduced in 2017 and later did become a new bios update in 2021 to use win 11 and get new agesa software to running new amd cpu´s.

Asus is obliged to provide new bios updates for this laptop because this system uses a current am4 socket and it has to be treated in the same way as desktop mainboards.

We are waiting now that asus is bringing a new bios update out for this machine for security updates and option to upgrade to newer ryzen 2xxx and 3xxx 65w series cpu´s.
