[REQUEST] HP Pavilion dv7-6b00 Series Whitelist Removal
#31
I want to install the intel 6230 wireless adapter but get the unsupported error.

Computer has the i7-2630QM processer
Intel 6 series/c200 and HM65 Chipset
HP bios version f.02
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-99513-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5197418&sw_lang=

current adapter: Intel Wifi Link, 1000 BGN
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0084&SUBSYS_13158086&REV_00
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0084&CC_028000

Has anyone come up with a bios with the white list removed for this unit that would let the 6230 card work?

Sad
Dear people,

I am out of options. I bought a DV7 laptop from HP. I regret afterwards. At first I told the seller I needed a 2 bay laptop because of SSD + HDD combination. They sold me the DV7. When installing I found out I had to buy a micro SATA cable for €75 euro's!

Now I am at the point that I exchanged the 1030 wifi card because of poor reception and performance and bought a 6235 centrino card.

Now the laptop won't boot, telling me the card is not accepted (BIOS). Then I found out about the whitelist and RMA'ed the card. I still have it, but I have an exchange pending for an 6230. But now I found out I need a HP branded 6230 costing me €75 instead of the normal Intel price of €25!!

I'm seriouly mad at HP now Sad

Is there any way to force my laptop to accept either the 6235 or the 6230 card?

The exchange of the card is due tomorrow. I really hope there will be a quick response.

Many, many, many thanks in advance!

PS. Firmware link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54846.exe

I Still have the 6235, but have ordered the 6230. I hope there will be a solution for the 6235 while I still have it.

Many thanks in advance.

from reading the other posts, i understand that if they have the same BIOS version, they can use the same modded version, regardless of exact product model. I did that for mine, and it succeeded. So it leads me to believe that the above thread would work for your situation.

Well, long story. I had ordered a N6235 and after that a N6230 both were not accepted due to whitelist problems (HP DON'T SAY IN THE SPECS IT HAS A MINI PCI-E PORT WHEN IT IS NOT FREE TO USE).

I just took the chance and flashed the BIOS of my DV7- 6b22ed. I boots fine now. I have reordered the 6230 card back, should be here in a feq days.

I hope it just WORKS now. I am tired of this 1030N card, it's crap.

Thank you very much!!!!!!

I now have a N6230 card (NON HP BRANDED, STANDARD INTEL VERSION!!) running on my DV7-6b22ed.

If I would like to take it a step further, 3 antenna N6300 card, is that possible with this bios? Is it whitelisted? If so, I would just buy another card and install a third antenna Smile

Thanks for the answers

I wait your news Wink

Dear Camiloml,

Could you please tell me what the firmware exactly does? I now have running a N6230 intel card flawlessly Smile

I would like to know if ANY card is now accepted, so I can also buy a 3 antenna intel versie (6300?) so I get a 450mbps signal. That would really fix the shortcoming of this laptop of mine.

My old Acer laptop even reaches 450mbit Smile

Thank you in advance!

Some users with similar BIOS and mkljax in this thread report problems and need removed CMOS battery.
You don't have problems?

- works fine at this time
- I have nothing changed in the BIOS.
- My original HDD (with recovery partition) i'm remove on the first day and replace with SSD HD (w/o recovery partition).

This evening (CET) i want to test the boot order.

I testing follow configs:

- change Boot orderin Bios save and reboot -->ok
- save Bios default setting --> black screen and flashing capslock key
- removed cmos battery --> windows starts with low resolution
- reboot set some bios settings --> black screen and flashing capslock key
- removed cmos battery --> windows starts with low resolution
- reboot --> windows starts with correct resolution

Edit:
The Bios is RSA signed --> thread

best practice for me:
  1. create bios recovery stick (http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-MU...-IMPORTANT)
  2. set favorite configuration BIOS
  3. Flash BIOS
  4. Reboot
  5. Check devices (in windows devicemanager)
  6. Shutdown
  7. replace wlan device
  8. boot windows
  9. install new wlan drivers
  10. check wlan device
  11. keep one's hands off from Bios Settings Wink

Hi people. I used the Bios firmwarer from here and it´s working perfect.
The only issue that I have is when I start the windows I have to desactivate the Wifi device on control panel and activate again. Always. If not, the wifi not works. I tried to reinstall all the drives with no success. Anyone knows how to solven this?
