[REQUEST] Lenovo G505S (83CNxxWW) Whitelist Removal
#41
(09-20-2013, 09:53 AM)mick1980 Wrote: Hi guys,

I'm hoping that someone can help by removing the WIFI card whitelist from the Lenovo G505s Insyde BIOS in order that I can install an Intel 7260 adapter (8086:08b1).

Dear friend, although I don't know how to remove a WiFi whitelist from your laptops proprietary BIOS,
you could just get a Coreboot open source BIOS (which supports Lenovo G505S) and flash it to your laptop! [Image: wink.gif]
Please go here for more information:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...#pid100299
Because its open source, you can modify the source as much as you want, everything is unlocked, and no WiFi whitelists or other stupid restrictions
BTW atheros WiFi card, such as AR9462 or AR9485, would have been much better than Intel Tongue
These Atheros cards work very good, cost cheap, very stable WiFi, and they work perfectly under Linux without needing any proprietary firmware drivers Smile

Dear friend, I see that you want to install alternative Wi-Fi card into your Lenovo G505S.

By the way, I have a good advice for a wireless card: AR9462 or AR9485 . These Atheros cards work very good, cost cheap, very stable WiFi,

I was wondering if anyone could remove the whitelist in my BIOS for me, it's a bit far in over my head to attempt it. And maybe include directions on how to install the BIOS? Thankyou!!

Here is the BIOS.

(10-02-2015, 05:25 AM)BDMaster Wrote: It's not so easy like You said Wink

1. get Sources
2. Compile to get flashable file
3. use Flashrom tool with a right SPI PGM (http://flashrom.org/Technology#Communica...s_protocol)
4. pray to get working laptop

I can say that project is good and smart beautifull for Developers !
But for normal user (and I helped a lot of to use SPI PGM) is very difficult.
many thanks for your report (have You tried It ? )
Regards

Yes I have tried it with my G505S, and although didn't have any previous experience with BIOSes, let alone compiling them,
after carefully studing all the available information at coreboot wiki's - I have achieved the successful boot from the very first flashing! Blush

But can I flash it only through USB SPI flasher + SOIC-8 test clip , because for some reason flashrom tool fails for me all the time...
So every time I need to update this BIOS I have to teardown a laptop, which is quite easy though (thanks to helpful photos/videos of teardown)

It wasnt that hard, but if someone still can't do it and there will be a request, I can share my 100% working BIOS flashable file
(but I am a new user here and don't have such a high reputation as you, BDMaster,
so people will need to trust that I wouldn't put any spying tool in this BIOS image  Big Grin )

P.S. About requests - people please write them to this thread please, for convenience:

Hi everyone!!

If someone could remove the WiFi whitelist and if possible, enable the Advanced Menu for this BIOS. I'd be forever thankful. Whitelist removal preferred.

I've made a full backup using an SPI Reader/Programmer. Attached the file.

INFO:

SPI Bios Chip: EON EN25QH32
Motherboard rev.: VALGC_GD LA-A092P 2013-05-09
Laptop Model: Lenovo G505s (1 video card, 4GB Ram)
Video Card: Radeon HD 8550G
SecureBoot: Off

Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention: it has an AMD CPU and an Insyde Bios.

I also have a SPI HW programmer so I can write directly to the chip. No need to update through software.

Lol, that is proof that modder Oleh aka Dudu2002 is dilettante. He is using ready solutions only, he cant solve many undiscovered requests without shared solutionsSmileSmileSmile
Stay tuned, i'll prepare mod quickly!
Please post screenshot of your Bios setup.

BDMaster : You said that !
And It's the Real Truth, I learned a lot of things to him and He turned on me, but it's just a silly, stupid copier, as He only copied my works ,
using Magic Numbers (They are Hex OpCode = Assembler = IDA Pro) Wink

P.S. You understood all !

Please,do not post requests me in PM.Bios modding is very dangerous work.If i provide you confirmed modded bios, please donate for my dangerous work https://goo.gl/98BgtO.Thank you!

Hello,
I have this old Lenovo G505s laptop. I wanted to use its ePCI on which Wifi and Bluetoothe card is connected for another Wifi card. But it seems to not work.  I browsed a lot of threads here and realized even my laptop must be having a locked Bios.

I read about Coreboot too, but tools and hardware I need will take a month to reach me.

Can you please provide me with unlocked Bios which I can flash internally or using pendrive?

Thanks!  Blush
