I do everything according to the instructions
I have an error:
"Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access.
Please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable Protected Range Registers."

My BIOS can not be modified?
Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the help

If You get an alert to Press ENETER to continue and You pressed this key, but after It
You got again this alert Error 28 then You have Eeprom Write Protect !
So only trying to flash an old Bios Version We can bypass this issue or using an HW SPI PGM.
To downgrade boot into bios through novo button or by pressing f2 untill bios appear then go to
where you have USB always on find "back flash" setting [Disabled] change it to [Eanbled] then
exit save changes boot back to O.S. and run an old Bios Update .exe file e.g. 71CN45WW or
71CN31WW and then use the Tool to get the result file again and I will check the result file
to see if We can try to flash the Bios Mod !
Let me know

Z500 has 2 BIOS. It is a "Rersver 4M+2M Solution".
I have following questions:
1.What's the relationship between these two BIOS chips.  One work as backup? or What?
2.I have an official BIOS.bin, it has a size of 7.44MB. How can I flash this one file into these two chips? Split them? If so, how?

Need in a hurry.

The official BIOS can be downloaded here: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobi...cn51ww.exe
The BIOS schematic is here (Page 14): http://www.rom.by/files/compal_la-9063p_...matics.pdf

I also attach the official bios file in Attachments.

Thanks a lot for your patience and assistance!

Attached Files
.rar   71cn51ww.rar (Size: 4.23 MB / Downloads: 6)

I wasn't sure where to post this thread. I wanted to make a new one so as not to clutter up another person's thread. A few months back in the Z500 bios thread, I explained that I flashed a modded bios on here to try and fix the whitelist wifi adapter on my Lenovo P500. They are pretty close to the Z500. The modded bios worked, but i went through the Bios and made 2 changes and when I rebooted, all I got was a black screen and then the power light turns off. I tried unsoldering the battery for the cmos to reset the bios and that did not work. Ive tried all the bios reset keys I could find online to no avail.

I broke down and bought an SPI programming and the adapters I need. Basically, I understand the jist of it, but Ive never programmed a bios manually before and Im not feeling 100% on the steps. I do feel completely comfortable stripping the laptop down and finding the bios chip and getting the files, but I don't know what type of chips they are, it looks like there are 2, what yall call 4+2 I think, but Im not sure how to flash them both, in what order. I've never used an SPI programmer, and the software is called MiniPro Programmer v6.10... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I ran some of the bios back up stuff before I ever started modding it, and I think I saved it, but im not sure what im looking at.

Programming and understanding computers is normal for me, but learning about modifying bios code and programming is something I have never done yet, but I am more than happy and willing to learn, if you guys would honor me with your time and tutelage.. Let me know if there is anything you need from me. Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I visit that site regularly actually. That site is great for actually modding the BIOS, but Im wanting to just learn to use the SPI Programmer to just flash either the stock BIOS back onto it, or the modded one, but without making any changes this time. Im not sure what to do about determining what types of chips they are, although I believe they are identical to the z500, but since there are 2 chips, how do you take the one BIOS file and determine which parts get flash on one chip and which parts go on the other chip. I'll keep looking around here and try and find some more answers to my problem. Thanks for any words of wisdom from you guys.
