[REQUEST] Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E535 (HHETxxWW) Whitelist Removal
Hello @all,
same thing that happened to another user: Needed to replace my WiFi card, old one damaged - decided to ask Lenovo Support which ones are compatible and this time use one with Bluetooth capability. They supplied me with an FRU number and I received exactly that one from an eBay seller. Upon BIOS startup, I get the error "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (8086/0888/B8086/4262)" and same message with code "(8087/07DA)" at the end instead. -> leading to "System is halted".

As I'm doing a clean reinstall of Win10, I will proceed to do so for now without a WiFi card, as I don't want any driver issues when switching to the Intel WiFi card (Realtek was installed before). I still have LAN and my other PCs for necessary downloads though.

How can I get my BIOS whitelist removed? Ideally, if there are whitelists for any other changeable components, except the WiFi network card, could those please be removed also? I'm having trouble with replacement batteries although I think to remember that this was not a whitelist issue, right?

My system:
Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E535 (3260EDU),
upgraded to an A10-4600M, running max supported 16GB RAM, 2x1TB SSD and Windows 10 Education (not managed by an institution -> have full admin access).
BIOS version: HHET92WW (2.52), from 2015-06-11 with ECP version HHHT92WW (2.52).

I got and installed the BIOS from Lenovo directly at the time and this is still the installed and current version:
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc...uj06ww.exe
Maybe it would be possible to get the BIOS file from there and not use a dump from my machine as no OS is currently on there yet.

What would be the next steps? It's not time-critical, so whenever you'd get around to helping me out would be fine. Might need a while to respond myself, as I have some tough exams coming up at uni in three weeks.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. Couldn't get your program to run, as Antivirus kept flagging it as Cryptominer. Anyway, created a BIOS dump with a different tool:

Can't get my e-mail to work on this machine at the moment, so link in reply. Thanks! Smile

HI,I accidentally flashed the BIOS on my E535, which caused it to stop recognizing the newly installed WiFi card. I found that this link is no longer available for download. Could you please tell me how to reflash the whitelist?

Hi everyone,

I need help removing the WiFi whitelist from my Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E535 (BIOS: HHET91WW).

Current Setup:
- Current WiFi card: Broadcom BCM4313 (14e4:4727)
- Target WiFi card: Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 (8086:008B) – DeviceHunt (https://devicehunt.com/view/type/pci/ven...evice/008B)

Error Message with My Card:
1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (8086/008A/8086/5305).
1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card (8086/0189).
System is halted.

Known Whitelist Entries:
- 14E4 4727 (Broadcom BCM4313)
- 14E4 4359 (Broadcom BCM4352)
- 14E4 4365 (Broadcom BCM4360)
- 10EC 8176 (Realtek RTL8188CE)

What I’ve Done:
- Dumped the BIOS with `flashrom` backup_bios.bin (https://fromsmash.com/backup-biosbin) – 8 MB, original dump).
- Tried searching/replacing whitelist entries with `xxd`/`UEFITool`, but no luck.
- Ready to test any modified BIOS

Request:
- If someone already has a modified HHET91WW BIOS, could you share it?
- Otherwise, could you help patch my `backup_bios.bin` to allow 8086:008B?
- Or give me a trick ?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Quentin
