You are the man! I'm not quite ready to flash yet. I would like to do this without removing the chip from the motherboard using a SOIC clip. I have not bought this clip or an EEPROM programmer yet because I am not sure which one is best.

On coreboot.org, they mention a separate power source. Do you know of any EEPROM programmer and SOIC clip that will not require an external power adapter? I am unsure of what to buy.

Quote from coreboot: "I recommend using SOIC clip. Depending on the flasher you use, you may have to use separate 3.3V source. Make sure not to feed more than 3.3V ot the chip. I used buspirate as flasher and 3.3V power lines from another computer."
http://www.coreboot.org/Board:lenovo/x230

Thank you again for your help, I really appreciate it.

BDMaster, what I am confused about is the voltage provided to the chip by the SPI programmer.

I am looking at following parts:
CH341A
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XCH341A+&_nkw=CH341A+&_sacat=0&_from=R40

SOIC8 SOP8 Test Clip
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XSOIC8+SOP8+flash+chip+IC+Test+Clips&_nkw=SOIC8+SOP8+flash+chip+IC+Test+Clips&_sacat=0&_from=R40

They were posted in this tutorial:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...1#pid74571

However, I am concerned about the voltage provided to the chip.

In an earlier post in this thread, kenmod mentioned an "overcurrnet error."
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-T...6#pid67456

Also, in this coreboot tutorial, the author mentions requiring an externail 3.3V power source.
http://www.coreboot.org/Board:lenovo/x230

I would like to make sure the SPI flasher and SOIC3 clip do not require an external power source. If they do, I am not sure what to use as the external power source or how to attach this power source.

Can you provide any more information about this or point me in the right direction? Thanks again.

Normaly SPI Programmer get Power by USB, but is possible to give an external power
(3.3 V) to stabilize the Programmer (I can say that It's not useful) so don't worry about It !
You have to use the tools and hope that your MoBo not sucks too much power as if so You
would have to remove Chip from MoBo to reprogram It !
Regards

P.S. Few MoBo permits to reprogram on Board the Chip !

https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...5#pid74575

https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...6#pid83126

I hope there are enough examples !

My MX25L3206E requires 3.3v VCC.

The GQ-4X lists the MX25L3206E as a supported chip, but only lists 3.6V, 5V, 5.5V, 6.5V as supported VCC.
However, the TL866CS lists 3.3v as supported VCC.

Do you think it would be better to purchase the TL866CS instead of the more expensive GQ-4X due to the 3.3v supported VCC?

I have got both and TL866CS (Black socket) cannot read / wrte on Board Chips !!!
Only MCUmall GQ-4X can do as It can reulate timing, but I cannot do on all MoBo,
only few MoBo which not suck too much power can get It working !
So all is based on your luck Wink

Thanks again BDMaster.

I purchased the following:
GQ-4 SPI Programmer:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260819856441

Generic SOIC-8 adapter/clip:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/141377097279

If I am not able to flash using that SOIC-8 clip, I will try the higher quality TOOL-012A adapter and Pamona 5250 SOIC8 clip.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271632344505

If that still does not work, I will resort to desoldering the chip from the motherboard as kenmod did in the first post of this thread.

I just posted my own whitelist request and will be updating this thread with my progress:

Hi BDmaster,
My notebook is also the thinkpad X230 tablet.I want to use the sierra mc7700 and the broadcom BCM94352HMB as the WWAN card and WLAN card.
When I install the mc7700,it halted with the words"1802 unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI net work card (0F3D/68A2) System is halted".
I'm looking forward you can mod the new 2.61 bios.I will send you the result after flashing the modded one.
Download link:.EXE]BIOS[gcuj21us].EXE
2.61 is the bios version and 1.14 is the so-called embedded controller's firmware version.
The exe will extract files in the DRIVERS folder.
Thank you very much! Smile

Here's the true link:2.61 bios.
I paste the wrong link,sorry.
Now my X230T only installed intel 6300AGN,the wwan card is not installed.
Do you need the original card's PCI/VEN code?Or you just remove the WL without using the PCI/VEN?
Could you please remove the whitelist?
Thanks! Smile
