Thanks for sharing that guide, I was about to resort to looking for a DIY solution myself, and that looks like a good place to start digging in. Looks like a comprehensive process, about how long did it take? Any things to look out for or keep in mind as I dig into it myself?

If you do it like I did cheating, takes 5 minutes.
I downloaded an already hacked BIOS from this thread, extracted the module that needs to be modded and replace it in my BIOS.

Can you share the modified BIOS you used? I'd like to take a similar shortcut, but all the hosted files in this thread have expired or are restricted on rghost.

I've been following donovan6000's guide, really an eyeopener. I think I've got the solution for 76cn31ww but would really like to verify against another source

I've recently done this for my Y2P on the same BIOS version, but it has to be done separately for every individual laptop - something to do with the integrated Windows key, amongst other things.

Download this tool, http://rghost.net/8zyvqH7sn, and use it to make a backup of your laptop's BIOS. It should be 4096KB in size.

Then zip it, upload it somewhere (rghost?) and post the link.

I've recently done this for my Y2P on the same BIOS version, but it has to be done separately for every individual laptop - something to do with the integrated Windows key, amongst other things.

Download this tool, http://rghost.net/8zyvqH7sn, and use it to make a backup of your laptop's BIOS. It should be 4096KB in size.

Then zip it, upload it somewhere (rghost?) and post the link.

Remember - flashing BIOS is extremely risky. Don't do it unless you can send it back to Lenovo for reflashing if it goes wrong.
And to anyone else, do not flash this on your machine, it's for Fernando's only. You'll brick yours, probably.

1. Get the archive and extract all files to an empty temp directory.

2. Open a command line windows as administrator (right click-> "run as administrator")

3. Navigate to your temp directory

4a. If you run 32bit Windows, enter this command "fptw.exe -f bios.bin -bios "
4b. If you run 64bit Windows, enter this command "fptw64.exe -f bios.bin -bios "

5. I expect you got a failure there, because this is a locked bios. However someone somewhere (thanks!!!) discovered a bug where if you put your laptop into sleep, and then wake again, BIOS becomes writeable. So close the lid, wait 10 secs, and then open again. Or use the sleep function in Windows.

6a. If you run 32bit Windows, enter this command "fptw.exe -f bios.bin -bios "
6b. If you run 64bit Windows, enter this command "fptw64.exe -f bios.bin -bios "

7. Now, power off, install your new network card, and enjoy dual band networking


Explanation: There is a particular module in the BIOS which needs to be modified, but this particular module is common (unchanged) across each individual's BIOS. Some other module (windows key SLIC?) is specific to each machine, which is why you can't just copy somebody else's unwhitelisted BIOS.
So I've taken the previously modified module from my BIOS, and rebuilt yours with it.

Unhide the advanced settings as edelkramer suggested or do the sleep bug (before flashing, close the lid of your laptop until it goes to sleep, then open the lid and run the flash command right away).

Hello, I have the same problem with the same bios. I tried to follow that guide, and I found where the string of the messages are loaded to ram, but is it safe to do it?

Do you have the passages that you did to mod it? I would like to do it myself, but I feel uncomfortable to change the bios by hand? If I will do an error? Will it boot again?
