[REQUEST] Toshiba Satellite C655D CPU support
#1
Question
I’m not very familiar with BIOS unlocking so I’m going to try to list as much relevant information as possible. Basically, I would like to enable AMD-V. My background is in computer science. I would like to run 64 bit virtual machines so that I can do 64-bit cross-platform C programming for Linux, Windows, and possibly Mac. There is no way to enable AMD-V in the BIOS that I can find; however, it appears that my hardware should support it. I also included a zip file with the following information and more in case I missed something.

Computer:
Satellite C655D-S5336
OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit
Processor: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics 1.65 GHz
RAM: 8.00 GB

From product specification guide:
Processor: AMD Dual-Core E-450 Accelerated Processor with AMD Radeon HD 6320 Graphics
RAM: max 8GB DDR3
Storage: 320GB (5400 RPM) Serial ATA hard disk drive

BIOS:
InsydeH20 Rev. 3.5
System BIOS Version: 1.60
EC Version: 1.40

From CPUID:
Processor - Processor - Name: AMD E-45R
Processor - Brand ID: 9
Processor - Package: Socket FT1 BGA
Processor - Technology: 40nm
Processor - Core VID: 1.350V
Processor - Specification: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics
Processor - Family: F
Processor - Model: 2
Processor - Stepping: 0
Processor - Ext. Family 14
Processor - Ext. Model: 2
Processor – Revision ON-C0
Processor - Instructions: MMX(+), SSE (1, 2, 3, 3S, 4A), x86-64, AMD-V

Motherboard – Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Motherboard – Model: Portable PC Base Board Version
Motherboard – Chipset: AMD ID1510 Rev. 00
Motherboard – Southbridge: AMD SB800 Rev. 40

BIOS – Brand: Insyde Corp.
BIOS – Version: 1.60
BIOS – Date: 06/23/2011

Did I give the wrong information?

This laptop currently has an AMD Athlon x2 P340 at 2.2Ghz. It is a Socket S1g4, with 8 GB DDR3 currently. I am looking at the processors that fit the S1g4 socket, and have found there are Phenom II's both Dual and Quad core.

The question is, would my motherboard support any of the S1g4 processors out of the box?

Another question is, my current processor has a TDP of 25W, and goes no higher then 64.2C/147.5F. Would it be able to reasonably cool a 35W or 45W processor?

Thanks,
Buddyochoa

P.S. sorry if this is the wrong place, I didn't think it classified as an upgrade request. Yet anyway Wink

Hi naylordl,

This isn't a CPU support issue as much as it is a BIOS setting/structure issue. Have you run the AMD virtualization test to see what is failing?

I have ran the program and it just says that i need to turn on AMD-V in the bios, but i am 110% positive that the option is not in the bios.
