Would like to know why the E545 can be modified this way but T430 Thinkpad can't, what did Lenovo do that's
different?

Wait just a more bit time and You'll how none will be moddable and all
Eeprom Chips on MoBos will get same Protection !
It's UEFI that implements RSA Signature and Encryption, lately a
protection mechanism to avoid manipulate Firmware !
