(UEFI) Dell XPS 15z L511z modded BIOS - and HOWTO
I guess the only way to know what's different between Dell's an Lenovo's videobios would be actually to compare same version of both. If there are changes for brightness controls .. there has to be more. But then again I recall Florin was saying that controls have reverted on his 15R with 17RSR v2130.0 .. so we are dealing with hit or miss scenario here.

Regarding pledgie:

alternatively we could look around into dell HD3000 bios updates which actually have this vbios version to see what's changed?

thanks for the pledgie info - chasing it now with pledgie/paypal. in the meantime just keep checking your bank account to see if it has been refunded, as all the original donators that I know of have had their pledge refunded.

Video bios changes massively (even connector table changes sometimes across different SNB VBIOS version) so the changes will be pretty impossible to identify. Comparing VBIOS of same version from different OEMs might give a better representation on what blocks of the VBIOS change depending on the OEM. I even use unchanged connector table from 17RSE, even though it doesn't necessarily matches my actual connector table per se.

The funds weren't even refunded by PP, so there's no way they're going back to my bank account just like that. Stuck in between accounts I guess, or were absorbed by pledgie... not sure how this works.

I had another refunded payment which is being processed by my bank establishment right now.

read the whole info, everything is well explained there Smile

nice work guys Wink

I noticed the l702x is missing from the list.

I made two attempts of create a recovery image for it, but it seems no l702x user was able to use them yet.

not sure if it is related with the machine itself, the image, or some user related mistake while doing the process.

here are the links if someone want to try them.

Hey guys,

Just to be sure links don't die and they are properly mirrored, please PM me if you want FTP space on our servers to store your files.

as usual, thank you the wiz Smile

anyway, isnt this too much for the ftp server?

I mean there are several Cd isos like 68 mb each, and many attachments at this forums, wich are many and very split.

awesome writeup TW!
Thanks TheWiz for putting this up!

One quick question on this:

Flex Ratio is essentially the Plimit of your CPU, this is the highest multiplier your CPU can utilize. Please note it’s not the maximum multiplier used for TB.

What does this mean?

Thanks @TheWiz for publishing.
The part about memory regions (related to OSX) is what I was referring to in my earlier post on the previous page - this is the cause of sleep/wake cycle breaking in OSX. It's not the BIOS fault (nor is it Dell's fault), but pure user laziness Smile Actually some people I should thank for some hint toward this discovery are Gower and Brabbelbla.

@jkbuha If I'm not confusing it, then if you set the flex ratio to say 22 (while your actual cpu can go from 8 to 23) the highest frequency you will end up with would be 100x22 = 2.2 GHz, instead of 2.3 GHz nominal. It limits the multiplier on the cores. You can't crank this value beyond then normal (non-turbo) P-states (but you can using Clover).

arrgg, >_<
I'm getting really pissed off while waiting for ages for those chips, I'm getting bored with this old desktop without being able to mod anything of my laptop (currently dead now)Big Grin

anyway, I'm almost sure those chips will be at home next week some day.

since I will have 5 of them, and sockets on both the motherboard and programer, I was wondering if you guys can help me with modding the image of the entire chip.

for example, I noticed timewalker got the address for all descriptor, bios and ME firmware from the chip image.

I was wondering if you guys could help me by editing the chip image, for example, by replacing the ME7 part of the firmware with a ME8 one.

since I have a backup of the entire chip and sockets to make job easier, I think nothing could be wrong at this time ^^

I think it could be interesting to do those advanced tests since my hardware is now more accesible thanks to the hardware mods I made, also by doing this, my laptop can still being the test subject for all the new UEFI and ME hacks tests

what do you think guys? Smile
