(UEFI) Dell XPS 15z L511z modded BIOS - and HOWTO
Hi,
I'd like to know if it's possibile to make an hard reset of CMOS (or BIOS).
The problem is that I can't find anymore the boot device:
*HD
*USB
*NETWORK
*CD-ROM
*etc...

The only two that I have are:
*diagnostic (this works but funtoo doesn't)
*funtoo

Anyone knows how can I fix this? Any suggestions? I'm thinking about using Jumper, but I can't find it on the motherboard.

mmm, as far I know, hard reset of CMOS can be dont by loading the default settings at the BIOS setup, or by removing the CMOS battery with no laptop battery por power cord plugged.

leave it 1 minute without cmos battery, and then reasembly the unit.

Nooop - I assume, he has UEFI bios , this means that removing battery will only reset a system clock. All the setup data are stored in nvram. You need to reflash bios with /cvar key from recovery - don't see other way
Unless you are able to uefi boot some how from recovery, start UEFI shell and make dh +bcfg trick

oh, I see.

so, then, isnt there any hardware way of reset it?

How can I flash? Could I use a jumper to do it?

There is no hardware way to do it
nvram is a part of flash chip, there in no hadware way to reset it
It is possible to have a jumper, which will inform initial code to reset nvram at start - but it is not mandatory and decision to have it or not is left to hardware manufacturer

You can use kasar's recovery method ( I assume you have a l502x) to boot from capsule and reflash image from Win PE
there was a manual how to do it somewhere in this thread

ill ask again is their any possible way to enable the wwan/tv mini pcie port on the xps l502x to get access to the sata controller or allow it to recognize an msata ssd ???? the dell precision m4600 or m4700 bios? has the option available and the m 4600 is supposed to be same generation as the XPS chipset wise so mabe a module or 2 can be taken from there?

Hey guys,

I read through like 50 pages (the news one I haven't seen) but I couldn't find a link to an under/overvolted bios that turns the GT525 into a 540 or higher. Can anyone please upload them to like dropbox or something like that? I'd be really grateful! Big Grin

Keep up the awesome work,
d*

Hey all

@Skreem - not sure what you mean - unfortunately I dont have a l502x. Maybe you or someone else in this forum can explain this to me in more depth?
@humanity - yes mate, it's because I haven't uploaded one myself Smile I had some up before but it seems like the majority of 15z users prefer undervolted 525Ms - what machine do you have?

@all - i'm back (for a bit) so I'm going to be focusing again on enabling the overclocking/undervolting features in ME. Anyone who has any developments please shout!

Thanks for the reply mate Smile I'm running the bios that's in the first post right now. It's an XPS15z with a GT525M, 6GB of RAM and an i5-2410M. I've clocked my GT525M since Day-One (1 week after the laptop's official release in the US) and it's been running at 780/1562/1000 for the time being, no issue, temps rarely go above 75-80 with my cooler but I'm getting a new PC soon and I want to see what the notebook can handle Big Grin
