UNLOCK/OVERCLOCK ASUS K501UW-72
#1
Hi Again, I was wondering if my bios could be unlocked. It seems interesting to overclock or just see the advanced features on this computer.

The model is an ASUS K501UW-72 but the series is K501UW if that means it applies to the entire series. Thanks again if you check this out Tongue .

Let's get a backup of your bios rom first

Requirements:
AfuWin 3.05.04 > Download

Extracting AfuWin:
  1. Open up the zip file you just downloaded
  2. Extract all files within the zip file to a folder

Backup your original rom:
  1. Open a command prompt as administrator in the Afuwin folder you just extracted
  2. Type "AFUWINx64.exe backup.rom /O" (without quotes)
  3. Save the generated file somewhere safe so you can still access it if you pc won't boot

Send the generated rom file to me and I will attempt to unlock most options

I modded your BIOS, I enabled all options that I could enable and I attempted to enable the chipset tab as well (you'll have to flash the BIOS to see if it's there or not)

First of all: I am not responsible for any damage you do to your laptop!

Requirements:
The modified rom > Download

Installing modified rom:
  1. Make sure your laptop is plugged in
  2. Close all windows
  3. Disable your antivirus
  4. If you have windows 10, make sure no updates are pending (so it doesn't auto restart during the flash)
  5. Copy the modified rom you downloaded to the Afuwin folder
  6. Make sure that the modified rom you copied is EXACTLY 6160384 bytes
  7. Go back to the admin command prompt in your Afuwin64 folder
  8. Type "AFUWINx64.exe fullUnlock.rom /GAN"
  9. If you get any sort of error like size mismatch, DO NOT flash the bios
  10. Press Y when prompted
  11. Restart your laptop and see if it worked

Please post your results here.

And advanced >> Thermal Config >> Platform Thermal Configuration

If you do not see Platform Misc Config or Thermal Config in Advanced section, then further edits will be needed. If you need those additional edits I can do
Not sure any of that applies to "GPU" thermal limits, but those sections cover are all the thermal controls in this BIOS

Yes, sorry I mentioned at the end, nothing in the BIOS for GPU thermal settings. Dump your GPU BIOS with GPU-z and maybe it's fan curve can be edited or voltages lowered. Upload the dump here and I will check it if you can't find a tool that works with it.
