[Unlock Request] Acer Aspire V3-551G
#61
The fan starts spinning but nothing happens even after 10 minutes. Once i power the lappy down everything goes back to normal so the process does not start, how can i find out what name should i use for the .fd file? The fat 32 dos formatted usb drive just keeps blinking at regular intervals. I suspect i am not entering the right filename. The model is Aspire V3-551G if that helps.

The file should be named BIOS.fd

Make sure you follow this procedure:

BDMaster Wrote:Create an USB Stick Dos Fat32 Formatted and copy that file into then use Recovery Procedure :

- Performing the emergency flash:

- Shutdown the netbook (notebook)
- Remove all peripheral devices
- Remove battery, Remove AC power cord
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds (battery and AC power still out), then release
- Put the USB Memory Stick in the USB port
- Hold "Fn" + "Esc" and plug the AC power cord in
- Now press the power button (whilst still holding Fn + Esc).
Wait until the fan will run, then release "Fn" + "Esc" keys
- The fan will run for about 2-10 minutes and the USB drive activity LED will blink
- I think the netbook rebooted automatically. If it doesn't, unplug the AC power cord once the fan has turned off

The bios should be updated with the modified BIOS, and boot as per normal.

The laptop should reboot on its own, if you are using windows 7 you may get the UEFI error when booting, to fix that just go into bios and change the UEFI settings.

The fan starts spinning ,I left it for like 30 minutes to an hour and it just keeps spinning haha, I'm running windows 8.1 under UEFI with secure boot on, tried with secure boot off and changing the boot device to the usb drive (with secure boot as well) to no avail.Gonna try with different usb stick and see what happens. I'm opened to ideas Big Grin.

I too suggest this. I have a 1GB flash drive I tried initially, and it wouldn't work for whatever reason.

As for how i prepped a flash drive, I ran these commands (from Windows):

Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk # (# being the number for the flash drive listed in above command)
clean (be aware this wipes all data off the selected drive)
create partition primary
format fs=fat32 quick
active
assign
exit

From there, copy over the BIOS.fd file, throw it in the laptop, and try BDMaster's instructions.

It worked Whohaaaaaaaaa Smile took about a minute , so the problem was i did not format the usb drive properly haha.

Thank you so much, I had been dealing with high temps and shutdowns because of the crappy fan management. Now that I got this flashed and could turn off cool and quiet, as well as the Thermal Fan Management ... all it working pretty good so far. Finally feel like I did on my old Dell I had that was BIOS unlocked from the factory back in the day of the C2D's.

Again Thanks!

I cannot find any option in the unlocked bios to get the ram speed to 1866 (since the 5750m supports it) so it still runs at 1600 mhz. I guess the bios restricts the ram speed up to 1600 mhz. If you guys have any suggestions let me know Smile .Thanks again for the unlocked bios!

So if anyone is still wondering if a CPU upgrade works, I just did it on my laptop:

Upgraded from the A8-4400M to the A10-4600M, a nice speed increase for under $40

That's pretty interesting; although it would appear that some V3-551G's already come with that CPU (mine came with the A10-4600M). Mine was factory refurbished though, so who knows.

Edit: Didn't see that it was being discussed for a while already, or I would of chimed in sooner lol

lHi I made a fatal error bios confused with the V3-551G V3-551 I could upgrade from 2.11 to 2.13 but I got confused looking for the 2.14 and use this fb http://www.firedrive.com/file/ C765B47A9407D729 to my surprise was updated but now only turns the fan, try installing the 2.13 bios but not load the usb memory. my question is no longer useful or even do something.
