[Unlock Request] Acer Aspire V3-551G
#81
hello i hope some people are still following this thread. is there a bios update for the acer aspire V3-551only because i bought an AMD A10-5750m and have had no luck installing it into my laptop. I have had it running with team viewer on and it kinda runs though my phone but cannot seem to get it to work, any help would be much appreciated.

regards.

When I installed the 5750m into my Acer v3-551g i used the modded 2.14 bios and I could only get it to post with UEFI, it did not post with Legacy Bios. Hope this helps. I think I'm gonna go bonkers and try to install 16 GB 2133 ram, will post results here when I do.

Hi all, thanks for the modded bios. really appreciate the work put into that.
I also have a v3 551g with overheating issues, which led me here.

Problem:

After I successfully flashed the modded bios, my SSD was no longer detected (it is my boot partition).

Solution:

It's pretty simple in the end:

It seems the modded bios is picky about your primary SATA device being on port 0.

My primary boot harddrive was an SSD running in the optical drive tray.. which ends up being sata port 2. The default bios had no issue with this and i booted off the SSD. The modded bios would not recognize the SSD as a bootable device, so no joy.

The solution was simply bringing the SSD into the main sata port 0 bay, which is where the HDD is traditionally stored, next to the ram. Swapping the 2ndary drive into the optical drive bay. The SSD is then recognized as bootable.

I guess the only problem would be if you had 2 separate drives with a dual boot scenario going on. You'd only get the primary drive showing up.

Now...I still overheating issues to deal with unfortunately...

Repaste the laptop and clean all the dust, the best thermal paste i've used so far is Gelid Extreme.Hope this helps.

All of the links in this thread say the file has been deleted... Do you still have this Bios?

If so, does it let you change the voltage and latency for the ram?

I just upgraded from stock 4gb 11-11-f3 to 16gb 9-9-9-24 on a V3-551-8469 running Windows 8.1 Bios ver.2.02, and it constantly keeps restarting or blue screen. Someone else in this thread said the mod worked on their 551-8469, but didn't give any details what for.

Any help on this is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, this is an old thread, but I thought I would post my progress on upgrading from the a8-4500m to the a10-5750m, and the use of this bios. First, yes you can upgrade to the a10-5750m, but there are some considerations to keep in mind.

First, the bios found in this thread (page 6 or 7 there is a working link as of July 2015) is awesome and you should install it for unlocked options, or be on at least bios 2.14.
Second, in order for the 5750m to work, you need either low voltage (1.35v) 1333 or 1600 ram, or 1.5 volt 1866 ram. The stock ram is 1.5v 1333, which is no good. Also, consider buying 8 gigs, due to the GPU getting 256megs of each 4gigs. So 8gigs=512MB gpu ram, wheras 6gigs (stock) is only 256MB.
Third, this processor will ONLY work in UEFI mode, not legacy. It will not even post in legacy. Make sure you switch it to UEFI mode BEFORE taking out the old processor. I had to swap the new and old 5 times to figure this out. (and make sure to NEVER put it in legacy mode again, or you will have to put the old processor back in)

Bonus, in order to install windows (or linux) in UEFI you must turn secureboot off, which can only be done if you set a bios password. Once you turn it off, you can take off the bios password.

I hope readers stumble across this and it helps. I wish I woulda know this all before tackling this myself.

Sorry to Rehash this couple months down the road. Just a little unclear here. My Acer v3-551 is not a g. Although when I enter my Acer SN on their website it forwards me to the driver section for the 551g. Those drivers and bios updates have worked so far.
Acer V3-551-7655
A6-4400m
My laptop doesn not come with a dedicated videocard which many of the G's seem too
And i Am currently running 2.14 on Windows 7 x64
Va50_cm mobo. I Am just curious if the bios mods that ive found in this thread will work on my laptop. I may just be taking the G in 551G too Seriously but I figured it didn't hurt to ask. Thanks

As far as I know, the only difference is that the G machines have a Nvidia discrete GT GPU soldered onto the motherboard, whereas on the non-G machines that space is left blank. I think the BIOS itself only configures the integrated graphics, whereas it leaves the GT as merely an on/off switch, with the OS responsible for providing drivers and connecting to the GT.

In that case, you would be OK to install drivers and updates for other devices, and I think a G bios would be OK so long as you make sure not to force any GT-related settings while using it...but I'm not certain, so you have to decide whether you are confident in this logic!

So, it might be best to wait and see if another user can confirm my suspicions.

That makes sense. When i use aida or Hwinfo it tells me theres an empty pcie16 slot so im assuming thats where the card would be if it were a g.
