[Unlocked!!] HP Envy 17-1188el Advanced tab and Whitelists sp52624
#1
Rainbow
Hi guys,
i've unlocked (and tested) my own BIOS and i want to share my job with all of you Cool

Features:
- Unlocked Advanced tab
- Witelists for Wireless and broadband devices (104 and 105 warning codes)
- Updated CPU microcode up to the latest v5

I've patched only 0144D version (no 01590.bin). In your bios's System tab you may check your MB version.

Let's enjoy it!! Big Grin

Someone know how to choose wich HDD must boot? (i've installed 2nd disk, but only Sata 0 makes boot.... Angry )

Thanks go to: donovan6000's blog (awesomes and detailed guides), and camiloml (4 a patched insydeflash.exe)

Awesome. You should be way proud of yourself. Very few people have managed to accomplish what you have Big Grin

Have you tried setting the boot flag on the HDD's partition you want to boot to?

I'm not used to receive compliments... Thanks Tongue Tongue Tongue

Anyway, i was seracing you Big Grin , because in your guide (a GPU microcode one) I think you made a mistake because andy's tool once encrypt bios from .dec, that tool delete every modification reverting back the modified file to original .dec . So, I think you still have cpu microcode v4 Tongue
To push CPU microcode i had to decript and encrypt bios manually using command shell by hewprsa.exe (which is in andy's tool) in this way:

hewprsa.exe -d BIOS\0144DF1D.bin -o BIOS\decrypt.dec -s BIOS\RSA.SIG

then you can push cpu microcode and then encrypt it again by:

hewprsa.exe -e BIOS\decrypt.dec -o BIOS\encript.bin -s BIOS\RSA.SIG

But at this point the same andy's tool does not decrypt new bios anymore!! LOL (Bug?!)
despite this new encripted bios works perfectly! (you may flash it without problems!)

Yes, 2 hdd with 2 Operating Systems! if i switch cables, the other hdd starts correctly! :-\
I wish to choose
which hard disk to start, instead of the generic entry now present "Notebook Hard Drive" Goddamn, I have two disks [censored] bios! Tongue

Nice job noticing that. We need more people like you at this forum Big Grin
I found a different method to bypass that issue though. It turns out that you can flash unencrypted bios without any problems. I guess InsydeFlash.exe has a check to see if the rom is already encrypted or not. So for that tutorial I only used Andy's tool to decrypt my bios to the .dec. After that I updated the microcodes and flashed the .dec file.

Are you just looking for a bootloader that lets you select which operating system to choose upon boot? You can use EasyBCD to edit Window's bootloader. I prefer using Chameleon as my boot loader because it supports customizable themes.

Sounds interesting, how did you flashed a .dec file? O.o

I had same idea, decompiling insydeflash we will figure it out for sure, but i had no time to do that Big Grin

have you ever tried to "frankenstein" your bios? Smile
In my case, Envy 17-1188el's bios is not released anymore from more than 2 years, on the contrary, the Envy 17-30xx series, is still gets updates. (both series have almost the same hw!!!)
I wish to update achi module and sata module too (and if possible acpi table!?) because since i bought ssd drive i can't instally win7 anymore due an annoying bsod during installation process!! :-\
Win7 on any meccanic disk drive can be installed correctly. (and same ssd on another pc works well with win7 too) Dodgy
Now I'm on win8 which works well on this ssd...but i deeply hate it.Angry
No way to solve this error by google: STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8005D68B30
so, i think bios cause this problem. That's why im looking into bios, i think its the cause of my bsod Big Grin

Just renamed it to what the original rom was named, and InsydeFlash.exe took care of the rest. I first tried doing this when working with RSA unmoddable bios because I though it might flash without bricking if I deccrypted it first. It still bricked though Undecided

Lol I hate looking at dissassembled/decompiled code. I can spend hours trying to analyze it just to get no where. That's the same reason I haven't made any bios modding tutorials in the past few weeks. Just don't have the time to stare at code right now XD

I was trying to do some stuff awhile ago that involved inserting/replacing existing image decoding modules with newer ones to expand the range of supported splash screen image formats. Couldn't get anything to work. It is possible to inject your own code into a module or even create a new module entierley. So if your really really really good, you can update eveything yourself Tongue

I personally love Windows 8, but it's clearly not for everyone. Hopefully Window Blue makes eveyone happy again Big Grin

Hi,

I tested, but not working properly! If I changed the SATA Controller to IDE then after reboot stuck on the boot screen. No way to go to BIOS again, only if remove the HDD. If change to RAID the error is same but no way to go BIOS again. Only if is reset the BIOS settings with removed battery. Can you check it and fix it if it's possible?

Thanks!

@onehecsa This is most likley due to either hardware limitations and/or the manufactueres not fully implementing the feature. There's nothing we can do about ths since we don't have access to the source code.
