[Unlocked] Unlocking acer aspire m7720
#41
The links on the previous page have been fixed. Once your USB is bootable with DOS, copy the flash utility and the ROM file to the usb. When you boot the USB type afu.exe nameofbios.rom and follow instructions.

But thanks for all the other stuff Wink

Flame,

I haven't updated my M7720 with the modded BIOS yet, but was wondering, did you get any performance boost with some of the tweaks you may have done. What I'm trying to say is, what adjustments did you make? And was the gain warranted. Thx

MWoo68,

You´re not gonna get a perfomance boost. You are able to change several options that first weren´t available (multiplier, vt, etc.) And some stuff that was partialy hidden is now compleetly free. (Eist, etc)..
So you shouldn't update your bios if your looking for a performance boost, I just like to mess around with stuff like this. Even if it doesn't really get me anywhere..

If you want a real ocing bios. Buy a new mobo. I'd suggest the asus rampage II gene. It comes in a mATX form like your current mobo. And its perfect for ocing, in fact its made for ocing. I'm waiting for mine to arrive Big Grin..
they have a price tag of about 190 euro.. With this you easily get your 920 up to 3.4 ghz without to much trouble and you'll beat every standerd clocked 975 around

While horribly offtopic(offforum even?Tongue), anyways while browsing for a way to oc my m7720, I stumbled on this website, and so far its proved valuable in the way that flashing the bios results in not alot, but Ill still do it, since it just sounds awesome to doWink.
Anyways..perhaps noobie question, but can I just change the Mobo of a complete system? Or are there certain steps to be made.
Ow and if this is not the right place to discuss this, could you point me in the right direction?

Ow and big kudos for unlocking it, doubt it was easyBig Grin

Changing a mobo is fairly simple taken the fact you know what you´re doing Tongue..
As you have a m7720 I know what your other hardware components are.
6-12 Gbs of ddr3 ram, a pci-e x16 2.0 videocard, and a i7920 socket 1366. your motherboard itself is a mATX form mobo.. So what your looking for is a mATX mobo unless your sure that you case is big enough to house a larger type of mobo (simple measurements), That has a socket 1366, supports ddr3 (all 1366 socket mobo's do) and has free pci-e x16 2.0 slot... As in an earlier post I advise theAsus Rampage II Gene. This board features all of the above is excellent for ocing and its fairly priced for a socket 1366 mobo.. Wires that connect your card reader and hddbay. should be explained in the new mobo user manual... Even if not this is not to hard.. Last but not least once you know everything fits make sure you have enough power Wink

Thanks! Let me know how the changeover goes! I assume you're going to keep everything else stock!?! ie/ case, memory, fan(s), PSU stay the same, but only changing MOBO. Have you confirmed that the memory is suiable for OC'ing? (might be a silly question but I'm a noob to OC)

If you had to modify anything, pls let me know how it goes. I just may do the same!

One other question, by changing MOBO, how does this affect the OS? We have Vista Home 64 bit, but soon I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 Home 64bit. Aren't these OS's tattooed to the original board? How to overcome or do I need to buy a new retail OS?

Ahh thnx, well I intend to idd, keep most things stock, prob will replace the graphic card to a dx11 card in a few months, and depending on how far ill push the ocing a new cooler.. Power wont be a prob, still have a 850 watt lying around (there was no need to put it in yet;D).

And ye ill report back, altough itll take some time before I actually do it, since the bankaccount is filled with cobwebs n emptyness in the purest formWink

Is this mobo physically incapable of changing bclk ? Or is it just a bios problem ?
