Upgrade CPU Samsung R580
#1
I have a samsung R580 JSB1US with intel HM55 and integrated Nvidia 310M Graphics that came with a core i5 430M I recently upgraded to a Core i7 720QM but the laptop won't post, the lights turn on, fan spins and black screen.
I think it's a bios compatibilty which prevents the intel core I7 720QM to run on that machine.
so my question is can anybody help modding the original bios
here is the link to the bios file: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners...580-JSB1US
click on firmware
bios version 11JB lastest as today 10/08/2012
any help will be appreciated.

I cant seem to find your specific laptop, but does your laptop use Optimus for the intel iGPU + dGPU? If so, your i7 won't work because it doesn't have an integrated gpu like the original i5. That's my first guess. Second guess is that your laptop can't handle the +10W TDP of the quad core. Third guess is bad processor.

Probably Optimus though; throw your original cpu back in and open the nvidia graphics properties panel and look for an optimus enabled check box or something like that. If so, you need an Arrandale I7-6xx. It's also 35W TDP so your laptop can handle the heat of this chip.

Good luck! I'm patiently awaiting an answer from my question from a month ago, and I hope I helped!

yes samsung website does not give you the complete specs of the laptop, I know it will not support a quad core which is 45W TDP.
the GPU is a nvidia 310M which has the optimus technology.
the only way to make it work would be a modded bios and some hardware modifications (PWM mosfets) to handle a 45W cpu which i can do hardware not software programming.
the core i7 6xx will work I know but I was hopping to use the one I already have, I guess I'ml just going to sell the I7 720Qm then buy the dual core instead I just don't have time anymore I buy, fix, upgrade then sell computers.
thank you for your help.

OK. Quad cores CPU isn't supported because of its too high TDP.
The best CPU for your laptop is i7-640M, but it's too expensive.
For current prices on AliExpress i5-560M is optimal.

You can try to modify cooling & power systems (on the motherboard, not PSU), but it is useless. Because of 45 W is much more than 25 W!
