G31,G41 should support 5xxx Series,3xxx Series,45nm,65nm
Q43,Q35,Q45 should support 3xxx Series,45nm,65nm NOT 5xxx Series

Hi everyone.
I can confirm that there's no booting of an E5450 on an Optiplex 5450, with unmodded bios A18.
The CPU I got to try this is a C0 stepping SLANQ that I had purchased before seeing the page on delidded.com that these Dells do not work with the 5-series Xeons for whatever reason.
Is there any point in trying the modified Optiplex bios that enables E0 stepping Xeons from earlier in the thread? The current cpu is an E8400 core2duo. Is it likely that the modified bios would enable the 5-series Xeons?

I tried the E0-stepping modified bios, to no avail.
The little SFF pc still amber flashes "2 3 4" on attempted boot, even after a full BIOS reset. "No Bios" error is apparently what that sequence means. Effectively just no support for that chip in that board. Has anyone seen a way around the dual CPU check that the Dell Q43/45 ICH10 boards appear to be performing, that is apparently the underlying reason why this little PC is refusing to boot with the E5450 chip onboard? That PC definitely does support the Q9650 so in theory should support all the 771 xeons, though delidded.com notes that the Qxx chipsets do not work with 5-series Xeons.
I put the E8400 back in and got "Unsupported Processor" error on boot, so applied the Dell standard A18 bios and that cleared that problem up. Probably because the E8400 references in the modded bios were overwritten with the E0 steppings.
Looks like I will be watching eBay for a decent cheap-but-good LGA775 ATX motherboard known to work with the 771 chips, to build up a PC around that Xeon, if I don't get it booted in the 960.
