I have an Optiplex 380 with Dell A07 BIOS and I tried two E5450 SLANQ C0 CPUS and both were very unstable. They couldn't survive more than a few seconds of prime95 before multiple threads would error out.

I replaced the last E5450 with an X5460 SLANP C0 and now the system works as expected. I'm trying to understand why this is so... The only issue I have with the X5460 is that I now have electrical whining noise coming through my speakers during screens that display alot of white background (ie. a web page or a blank document) - like RF interference or something. I have a bigger PSU coming but I'd like to hear any opinions on this...

Thanks.
The system also has a Zotac 1050Ti and Wifi card. This is with the stock PSU so it's probably right at the margins of what the PSU can handle.

I can confirm that there's no booting of an E5450 on an Optiplex 5450, with unmodded bios A18.
Optiplex 5450?

Ugh, my apologies..

No booting of an E5450 on an Optiplex 960 SFF, with unmodded bios A18.

My bad!

Optiplex 960 is based on Q45 chipset without support of Xeon 5400 series.
Here is my modded Optiplex 755. Lots of mods. Case paint, front air filter, modded fans, solder pins onto HDD_FAN pads, added GTX 560, 430W PSU, moved front panel ribbon behind motherboard, added PCI wifi card, added PCIe USB 3.0 card, and soon will be doing custom loop water cooling. Also added custom northbridge heat sink with fan for overclocking.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400, SetFSB to 3.2Ghz, stock voltageĀ up to 3.4Ghz
8GB DDR2 800, 1066 after SetFSB OC
32GB SSD, 1TB SSHD
GTX 560 2GB OC to 900mhz, 2100Mhz mem
Thermaltake TR2 430W

I have benchmark video on YouTube for a few games.

Newer AMD cards like RX550 are INCOMPATIBLE. They work for basic display but Error Code 43 with drivers installed.

Fermi Refresh (GTX 5xx) needs Driver 379 or OLDER.

New GTX cards work fine, like Pascal - GTX 1070 was tested working fine (bottleneck, haha)
I have an Optiplex 380 that has BIOS A05 to avoid the digital signing issue. I had a Q9505s 1067A R0 stepping CPU in it.
I've installed an X5470 Xeon. It's a PITA to get running but it does run after some tweaking.
Reboot,F1, start Win7, then tweak Multiplier and Voltage with Throttlestop ( it looks like it's running last good Q9505 settings).
On fresh start, or wake up the fan runs 100%. Reboot etc. etc.
I tried to download the O38-A07 1067A-771exe. file but it got kicked out due to a virus infection.
Is there a modded O380 A05 file available?

Thanks Genius239 - can you please upload to another host (not rghost either, thanks!)
File-upload, captcha always fails 95% of the time, and the rest of the time only a blank page loads after finally being able to use the download link (tried two browsers and a download manager app too, no luck with final download URL)
