Toshiba Satellite M505-4940: In need of T9500 CPU Support
#1
I have a Toshiba Satellite M505-4940. Yea, the [censored] box haha. But I also have a T9500 Core 2 Duo laying around. It physically fits, same socket as the horrible T4200 that came with it. Same P socket and 800 FSB. The chipset is a GL40. Not so great I know, but Ive seen other laptops with the GL40 chipset running the T9500, with a bios mod for cpu support. The Lenovo G550 is one example and Ive seen other Satellite Pros that have bios support from Toshiba themselves. The bios for mine is currently updated to the latest version (2010 - v.2.50) file name smg2v250.exe. http://support.toshiba.com/support/model...xt=2346345

Is anyone willing to force this bios to accept the T9500 or if its been done, point me in the right direction? Im selling my Z97 ASUS mobo and 4790K in my main system to upgrade to the Z170 setup later on this year, and I want this laptop to grunt some basic work, no over clocking needed.

Have you tried to boot you laptop with Core 2 Duo T9500? It has CPUID=10676 and BIOS of your laptop has microcodes for this CPUID - version 060C, 01/19/2008.
P.S. BIOS for Lenovo G550 has the same version of microcodes for this CPUID.

With the T4200 all lights come on, and the fan starts up, and the American Megatrends screen posts before booting windows. With the T9500, all lights come on, but the fan never starts, and the system auto shuts off within 5 seconds. Maybe the CPU is bad? I bought it on Ebay for $40 from a reputable seller.

I was about to get busy taking it apart again to take a photo, but to my surprise it was on, the fan is running, but there is nothing on the screen. I will still take the picture, give me a couple minutes.... Thank you for your time by the way

The laptop stays on now, the fan is blowing and there is some heat. The screen will not turn on at all. There is no sound, no beeps either. There is another issue now and Ill dig around on that one. Any ideas?
