Hi
Your mod completed, read PM

Hello again all, I would just like to give ya'll a status update. The gentleman that assisted me by sending me the BIOS mod so I could flash it over to my g580 20150 told me NOT TO CHANGE THE VRAM ALLOCATION. I, in my forgetful-ness forgot that instruction and did it anyways. Now it wont boot, webcam light repeats the blinking at the top slowly but the screen or laptop power doesnt appear to come on, or it is stuck trying to turn on until I disconnect the battery or push the off button.

Now, I realize this is my fault and it was because I messed up his instructions, it was just so tantalizing, the advanced tab had the option to change vram size from 64 mb all the way to around 1 gb so I was excited! Anyways, I've completely taken it apart down to the motherboard and I found the "rtc" cell or "cmos" battery. It has plastic tabs on the top and bottom and I work on desktops and as you all may know you can reset the BIOS settings by removing the battery for a certain amount of time and then re installing to a stock settings BIOS again.

My question is, it appears the cmos battery or rtc cell whatever its called in this model is located on the edge of the motherboard next to the sata port for the SSD or HDD. I have disconnected part of the solder, the top one, in hopes that it will reset my BIOS settings from the modded BIOS. Would you happen to know if I will succeed in resoldering the lead back to the top cmos battery tab OR was this move irrelevant and I need to get a replaced motherboard anyways? I installed the BIOS so I could use a i7 3940xm which requires 55 watts instead of the b830's 35 watts. THIS is the CPU I have installed now --          https://ark.intel.com/products/71096/Int...o-3_90-GHz

and this is the CPU i wish to install --        https://ark.intel.com/products/71096/Int...o-3_90-GHz

So, will my CMOS BIOS reset be a success? AND will my CPU swap be recognized and fully functional?

Sorry for the at length post but I need some help. I'm sitting here on my desk with it apart and the soldering iron and I wanna know haha. Smile

Edit: here is an interesting page and also confirms they are the same exact socket
