Then it's possible this BIOS is simply too old to just inject 206C2 when it's not there by default. Your only option may be to use the latest BIOS and put some of those little square alu or copper heatsinks on the VRM's, that will really improve the heat removal over just fans alone.

I see 5-6 core settings missing in setup in 1.60 vs 2.90, this may be part of the problem too. But, I think if I swap out these modules that will bring over the VRM thermal throttle, not 100% sure though, we can try if you want?

That, involves two module swap tests, one setup and one with both setup and SLAB module, either if failed may require hardware programmer recovery. Do you have a programmer, like CH341A and SOIC8 test clip cable? If not, order those from ebay and once they arrive we can test this method. Price is $2.50 for a programmer and around $3.50 for a cable, but it will take 3-5 weeks to arrive. Or you can try to find someone that will ship faster for more $$, sometimes Amazon or Newegg like places carry these too. Or you can also look for kits that may ship faster from those places, like EZP2010 or EZP2013

Im in the same situation, my i7 920 did not run at 4.0 because of that reboot no error. Suspected vrm from start, tried water on them, tried fan on front fan on back, time until reboot has improved but still restarting on its own and only on full load cpu/ram stress test like linx or prime95.
Got a westmere xeon x5675 mostly because of the 95w tdp. With this one i can go up to 4.4ghz and is restarting after few minutes of stress test.
If there is a temp sensor on the board maybe we can relocate or modify something, if the bios cannot be modified.
Thanks for the help or suggestions.
