$250 BOUNTY: Intel Compute Stick BIOS mod needed
#31
(03-23-2019, 03:11 AM)DeathBringer Wrote: My tool must be run on your Intel Compute Stick with Windows installed (any version with UEFI booting).
AfuEfix64.efi (64-bits) and AfuEfi.efi (32-bits) can be run from UEFI shell.

I'm downloading Windows 8.1 now and I'll see if that can be done but supposedly not possible.

This particular 1st generation stick was supposed to only work with Linux. That's what Intel claims.

However, it's horribly curious that Intel left a choice between Ubuntu Linux 14.04 and Windows 8.1 in the BIOS.

I'll let you know what happens.

I dare not even try to put Windows 10 on this.  It would probably freeze up during the install.

Only 1GB RAM and 8GB eMMC.

Another thing I can investigate is the UEFI version of Hiren's BootCD. That's a possibility.

Got AMI Flash Utilities & AMI Clean.

I'm waiting for Window 8.1 to download then I'll create a USB stick and see if I can get in with that.

I'll grab my 64-bit EFI shell stick and add the two EFI files to them and run it now.

It means that BIOS starts to find bootx64.efi at first case and bootia32.efi at second.
So choose Ubuntu Linux 14.04 for any(!) 64 bit OS with UEFI booting.

Ready to run AfuEfix64.efi and AfuEfi.efi in the 64-bit UEFI shell on my USB stick.

I assume they just generate a report and save them on the USB stick.

I'll send over to you if they do.

That's the exact command I used in first the 64-bit shell and then the 32-bit shell.

Here's pictures:

I just made an attempt to install Windows 8.1

I was not able to even get the USB stick recognized which had Windows 8.1 on it.

Even when the BIOS was set to Ubuntu 14.04, which is the only time a USB stick is ever recognized anyway.

The Windows 8.1 used was what Rufus puts on the stick and automatically it's done in GPT/UEFI (there's no choice about that).

There are two modes of installing an ISO onto a stick with Rufus.  One is ISO and the other is DD.

I normally do ISO but I can try DD if it makes any difference.

I'll think of some more things...not out yet.

Try verison 5.05.03 for AptioV.

Show a screenshot of Rufus with selected options.
Try like this

Or try to use Windows USB/DVD Download Tool for creating USB stick for install.

I said partially incorrect about Windows 8.1 not booting...when the BIOS is set to Ubuntu it will attempt to boot but immediately give the sad face.

When the BIOS is set to Windows 8.1, the computer cannot see any USB stick attached to it, even though it did before the BIOS setting changed.

I need to get some sleep...almost falling over here.  Going on 5am.

Will resume tomorrow.
