Lenovo M5400 CPU upgrade
#21
Try this algorithm:
1) disconnect power cord
2) disconnect all HDDs and optical drives
3) remove all DIMMs and CMOS Battery
4) install new CPU
5) wait 10 mins
6) press and hold power button for 30 sec.
7) install CMOS Battery and one DIMM only in first slot.
8) connect power cord and try to power on.

Thinking of downgrading the BIOS to the version posted in the first thread. Any thoughts?!

Try to update it to 9.0.31.1487 by FWUpdate

Latest update.

Want to thank DeathBringer  for his time and patience with me.

I took on his advice and performed a FW update ( but using the 9.0.31.3488_5MB_PRD_RGN.bin as the 1.5 kept saying invalid file ) and now I'm the happy owner of a M5400 running i7 4700MQ.

It seems that power was not a limitation on this board (higher TDP on 4700MQ ), only the firmware was.

Attached CPU-z screen for confirmation

Hello, I have the same notebook Lenovo M5400 with intel-i5, and I have a i7-4700mq; but there is an error appears when flashing 9.0.31.3488_5MB_PRD_RGN or 9.0.31.1487_1.5MB_PRD_RGN - (Error 8745: Firmware update cannot be initiated because the OEM ID provided is incorrect). What happened? Can You explain me, please or what can I do to flash ME for current version to install i7
