[Request] HP Elitebook 6930P WLAN Whitelist removal
#11
Yeah, yeah, I'm totally necroing a thread right now. I know. Don't tell me. :/
Would anyone take the time to perform a no-whitelist mod for the latest F.20 BIOS for the 6930p? I'd like to use my Intel 7260 wifi card in this laptop.
There was one for F.19 but I was unable to install it because any version of HPQflash or ROMpaq for this computer does not allow downgrades.
Would appreciate the help, thanks. I can provide more details if needed.

They modded F.19 instead F.20 on purpose. F.20 provides major security improvement.

I ended up hardware flashing an F.19 BIOS dump on this computer, and copied over my serial numbers and all... but there's now an issue where the BIOS does not consistently start up and sometimes it does not start the hard drive. I have tried a hard reset along with reflashing it, but to no avail. How would one fix this issue?

I think the dump doesn't suit the laptop configuration. You can try flashing Rom.bin from cabinet archive from F.19 update.

Also, if you have a hardware programmer, the security of F.20 bios is no more an issue to disable whitelist.

Here's the issue, the ROM.BIN file is 1.7MB, whereas a full dump of an HP 6930p BIOS is 4MB. I could not find anything about making that file a proper 4MB ROM, even with hewprsa. So I'm not entirely sure how to go about it.
Also, elaborate more on a potential F.20 whitelist removal. How could one do this? I have a hardware programmer, and a dump of my F.20 BIOS that seems to be OK. I think transferring the NvData stuff or whatever its called to the F.19 BIOS from the F.20 kinda screwed things up. Also the BIOS that I did flash does seem to be for discrete cards.

Yes, that's an issue, if you don't know how to make it 4MB.

You could have heard about bios recovery feature. It works even if bios is in its worst corruption. The reason behind this is that HP implemented it in BootBlock area, which doesn't update by HPQflash, but rather by bios itself. So it is almost impossible to corrupt BootBlock if the main bios area is faulty.

And since F.20 version they implemented a protection in BootBlock.

You may attach the F.20 dump with or without serials, so I could disable both the protection and whitelist.
