Yes it looks like it is some kind of "encryption" as the ROM header on this BIOS isn't right at all. Looks like some hex work to me Big Grin

Excellent. Any update on the crisis recovery method?

Not sure why Aflash2 didn't work for the backup, seems executing aflash2 gives the option to flash or save.

The above example is simulated using DOSBox so in this case there is no backup to be had. Would have thought it would work on the JH as well as the JW though.
Maybe it's a bad omen. Angel Big Grin

What are you trying to open exactly? For the setup utility and forms, these can be found in the second firmware volume as part of a compressed LZMA section under GUID ae717c2f-1a42-4f2b-8861-78b79ca07e07.

My thoughts are to just change the NV store for now. There don't seem to be any checksums for it which seems strange and perhaps asking for trouble if a store should become corrupted. This method would seem the least invasive on the BIOS.

What do you think? Possibly either the defaults could be modded or the last saved Setup settings. Seems to be a choice of 3 native flashes, winflash, BIOS & aflash2. Do you know of any others? On the Insyde setup the NV Store is normally protected so I'm wondering if Johnksss reflashed the backup after changing some settings in the BIOS would it revert to defaults, keep the last saved Setup or use the Setup in the backup file.

I am busy with other things right now but I did try asking around about the crisis recovery. This thread was a little disturbing. As far as asking about the recovery procedure though I feel like the invisible man. Sad
