[Test] sp54174 Whitelist Removal HP Probook 5330m
#1
Hi

I tried to remove the WWAN whitelist check from this bios with not success:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-54500/sp54174.exe

And'y's Tool v1.91 seems to be able to decompress the image.

(HP Probook 5330m / 68SFF Bios)

I tried to follow the guide found here:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Ge...OS?page=14

I also found the mentionned error text ("Wireless module not supported") in this file:
7367B3B6-DAAF-4A23-9287-373F47FA2BCB_3_23.ROM:

HEX:
..."57 00 69 00 72 00 65 00 6c 00 65 00 73 00 73 00
20 00 4d 00 6f 00 64 00 75 00 6c 00 65 00 20 00
6e 00 6f 00 74 00 20 00 73 00 75 00 70 00 70 00
6f 00 72 00 74 00 65 00 64 00 00"...

Unfortunately, this file doesn't have the mentioned <<0F 88>> JMP inside. Any idea?

Edit: according hp's site, the supported WWAN Module is un2430. I don'r own this module, but found the following Device id:
"USB_DEVICE(0x03f0, 0x371d)}, /* HP un2430 Mobile Broadband Module */"

Don't think your probook accepts the modded bios, but it's just a matter of trying, maybe you have luck.

Wow that was fast!

The good: I was able to flash after dropping the HP_TOOLS Partition.
The bad: Blank screen and the CapsLock led blinks. So I'm going to search for a USB stick :->

uncompress it over a blank fat32 formatted pendrive respecting folder structure.

Remove battery and ac cord from laptop.

Plug usb stick into usb port.

Press and hold Win+B keys, connect AC cord (not battery) and press power on, keep holding Win+b keys for 10 seconds.

You will see USB activity, just wait and laptop will reboot in perfect state itself.

ooops my fault.

rename the files in the Current folder, and name

Rom.bin -> 68SFF.BIN
Rom.sig -> 68SFF.SIG

and try again with win+b.

hello!

as i own the same notebook and would like to replace the standard broadcom 4313gn 14e4:4727 with a centrino-n 6300 i would like to offer my assistance (if possible). so far i should have all necessary tools together and tried to locate the whitelist, but without luck (propably due to my lack of experience with this kind of stuff).

is there anything i could do to increase the chances for a whitelist-free bios?

regards,
andy

That was it - my computer is personal again :->
I'm ready to brick my notebook with another bios patch ;-)
