Samsung Q70 Laptop Bad Bios (Phoenix) Flash!
#1
Hi,

Does anyone know if there is an emergency recovery for the bios in Samsungs laptops? Specifically the NP-Q70?

I have had a bad flash of a bios and now the laptop wont boot. I can still get into the bios and POST all goes through fine. I get the BIOS summary screen and then a blank screen. It seems to be stuck in the BIOS still though as if i press F2 at this point it says "Entering SETUP ..." at the bottom of the screen rather than the top of the screen but nothing happens.

I have tried calling Samsung direct and they were useless.

It is a Phoenix bios and I have tried the Crisis recovery method with a floppy disk and using fn+B, fn+ESC, fn+F, all cursor keys, WINKEY+B, WINKEY_F, WINKEY+ESC, different USB ports for the floppy dirve but all to no avail.

Please help if you can.... its driving me insane. Just out of warranty too by about 10 days Sad

Does anyone have the service manual for this Laptop? If they have maybe as a last resort I can remove the BIOS chip and get it reprogrammed off the board.

Cheers

If your happy dismantling the laptop , you could try to see if the bios chip is removable (See below)

If it is removable , check the latest blog post for a list of supported chips that we can reflash using our programmers. if its on the list , use the link at the top of the page , pay $15 and both shipping and we can reflash it for you Big Grin

Hi 1234s282,

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to think this might be my only option left...

I will dismantle the laptop over the weekend and find out which BIOS chip is installed and post the result.

Thanks again...

I don't agree it with 1234s282.
if it is desktop, it might be have removal rom, but it might not be removal from laptop..
phoneix have recover mode for brick.
but it has different version and different manufacturing version.
as my knew, if original bios have phlash16.exe and x.wph, it could be recover from crisis disk, but If it has winflash, it coudn't.
there are lots phlash16 version and different platform, and it might be frustrated to recover from brick.
don't give up.
phoneix have recover mode for brick or spend lots $$ to replace motherboard.

ps: the samsung have supply only winflash http://www.samsung.com/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=1424367&type=Computer&typecode=11&subtype=Notebook&subtypecode=1102&model=NP-Q70&filetype=FM&language=, not as dos file.
I don't know how to extract the file. it isn't same as dell bios format.

Erm ive had plenty of laptops comein for repair which have a removable bios chip. And all notebooks use phoenix bios anyway.

Its a 50/50 chance whether we can reflash , check the blog for a list of supported chips.
