Thanks for uploading all that.

Hey, will you let us know what programmer and connector you ordered or are going to order? If it's not too expensive I'll get one too.

There is a new BIOS (7CCN35WW ) http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/pr...s/DS100450

Anyone able to overcome reassembly?

I read somewhere that can be edited in RAM in H2O and like it is packed back right... (I could be wrong - I write from memory, if I find a link - give).

Okay, I tried connecting the flash IC (part number is W25Q64FVSSIQ) with an EZP2010 programmer using the SOIC8 test clip, but the computer just disconnects the USB connection repeatedly. Presumably because of an overcurrent condition.

Then I connected the battery, but this did not result in any voltage getting to the IC's VCC pin. I guess the next step would be to actually turn it on, but that seems a little crazy to try to program it while it's on!

Do I for sure have to desolder the IC? I think I can manage it, but I really don't want to, because there is always some chance of damage to the PCB.

Hi friend,
someone has done experimenting giving DC current only 5v on Chip Pin specific and wrote to work !
But I think You could desold chip off MoBo, but I suggest to write at CodeRush (wonderful Technical and Programmer, He sell your own in Russia) may be He can give a definitive answer !

Try to write here :

So then let me know, as I am interested too

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried disconnecting the power from the programmer and supplying 3 volts (within spec according to the datasheet) from a battery. But it didn't work for some reason. Maybe there are other devices on the same SPI bus that interfere, or something like that.

Because it's lead-free solder, I didn't have any luck removing it from the board. I think you need a reflow gun for this and not just solder wick. Maybe if I had lead-free solder to tin my iron with...

Anyway, I'm about to leave town, and I'm out of time. To anyone else who attempts this: I would recommend ordering a replacement IC with the same part number, then you can snip the pins near the body of the IC and remove it much easier. Then you either need a way to get the lead-free solder off, or you should use the same type of solder to put in the replacement chip. Because leaded and lead-free solder don't mix.

Finally, I would just like to say, "[censored] you, Lenovo." Seriously. At least I didn't break it.

Yes to desold It needs an Hot Air Gun, but to sold It's enough (and better) a simply solder !

There is a wayt to desold without HAG (I tried and work) :
