Oops! I'm sorry, the above was 1.05. Now, this attached file is definitely v. 1.04 -- aiz30104.exe.

Seems like one possible solution to my 0x000000A5 BSOD on Win 7 and Win XP installs might be to enable ACPI version 4, while it seems the BIOS has ACPI version 5 enabled by default, with no way to switch back to version 4. Also, there's no way to disable AHCI mode and enable legacy IDE modes. Again, the bios is extremely limited and frustrating.

I wish the bios for the Lenovo s21e was a little more functional. This has to be one of the most stripped down, sparse bios menus ever.

If SPI lock is enabled, how are we able to use Lenovo's utility to flash from 1.04 to 1.05 and vice versa then?

So, then, it is impossible to get anything other than Win 8.1 on it because of lousy BIOS limitations, then? The system only has a 32 GB SSD, so I was trying to get XP installed to save some space on the drive (Win 8.1 takes ~10 GB, while XP can be pruned down to ~1 GB!). I did manage to get DOS 7.1 on it, and a dual Linux boot, by wiping out the GUID partitions entirely and going to FAT32 LBA.

It looks like there are no AHCI drivers which can be slipstreamed into an XP install with NLite, either. I guess the only option left for me is to return this garbage, stripped down, artificially limited Lenovo BIOS-locked piece of junk notebook. then? Unfortunately, I do not have an SPI programmer. I've spent hours on this to no avail. It's a Bay Trail socket 1170 chipset with Celeron N2850 chip

Thanks for your help all the same, and if you have any more insights as to how I might get XP installed on this system, please share. Maybe I would have better luck with a Braswell chipset?

Yes FAlseClock can be used to do this :

0x22A84 Setting: Chipset SATA Mode, Variable: 0x39 {05 91 16 02 17 02 A9 00 34 12 39 00 10 10 00 02 00}
0x22A95 Option: IDE, Value: 0x0 {09 07 18 02 00 00 00}
0x22A9C Option: AHCI, Value: 0x1 (default) {09 07 19 02 10 00 01}
0x22AA3 Option: RAID, Value: 0x2 {09 07 1A 02 00 00 02}
0x22AAA End of Options {29 02}

setup_var 0x39 0x00

So let's a test !
Regards
