How To Flash A Modded Bios - Bootable DOS Guide
#1
Hi Everyone

As promised , here is the tutorial explaining how to flash our modded bioses by using a DOS CD/DVD or USB. Flashing from DOS is recommended instead of flashing from windows because tehres a lower chance of something going wrong!

Here’s what we need to get started:

1. First, we need to prepare a bootable USB to launch DOS and flash the new BIOS. To do so, download the HP USB disk format tool and install it from http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new/uti...P27608.exe

2. Once installed, open the utility and select the USB to format. Below, tick the bubble for creating an MSDOS startup disk. It will then want you to point it to a DOS image folder. You will need to download and unzip this DOS image (do NOT use your own DOS image) http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1525839/Programs...20Disk.zip here

Once it has completed formating your drive, open up the USB in My Computer. Verify that there are only three files on the USB, making sure to unhide protected operating system files in explorer to see them. If you see three DOS files, you are ready for the next phase.

3. Now we will copy over the bios image that you are flashing as well as the flash utility. For Award Bioses , you will need download AWDFLASH , AMI Bioses use AFUDOS. Copy the flashing utility over to your USB here. Once the utility has been copied over, download the Bios image and save it to your usb.

4. Once these files have been copied over, you are ready to flash. Reboot windows, and when the BIOS screen comes up hold down Esc and select your USB to boot off of. Note that with different bioses , the key to press does vary , your may not necessarily be Esc. You will then see a WIN98 splashscreen temporarily flash and you will be in DOS.

5. Once at the prompt, type in the following command:

awdflash BIOS.BIN /py /sn /cc / cd /cp /wb /r

Replace BIOS.BIN with the name of the bios file you are flashing. If you arent using awdflash , replace awdflash with the flashing utility.

eg. For AMI bioses AFUDOS bios.rom

Once you type this in you should see on screen the progress of the BIOS flash. When it has finished, it will automatically restart the system. If all goes well and you haven't bricked your motherboard , enter the BIOS and have a look at your extra options (If we unlocked it) , or boot to windows and check for your SLIC (If we SLIC modded it)

Hi all,

I'm new here. I plan to flash my bios because I want to do an upgrade very soon, but my bios is locked. I have a Acer aspire E380 4200+. What I need to know is can I use a dos CD/DVD instead of USB? because I don't have any USB key. Thank you very much and thank you for your great bios job.
