[Unlocked] M4A78LT-M(cm1630)--Unlocked retail ROM for OEM ASUS Essentio CM1630
#41
I'd like to know how you are even able to openly say it works. It doesnt work its not even a valid ROM file unless the naming is completely wrong and that is infact a zip file (which I just checked and its not). So please explain some more details as to how you think it works or even got it to work because the ASUS rom file is supposed to be exactly 1.00 MB (1,048,576 bytes) in size regardless of any version.

You are the man. I was gonna come back and post about the hardware issue and windows not recognizing it but you nailed it right on the head. That is exactly what is going on here.

Quote:Although, if it comes down to it, I will 'fix' the activation issue, by any means necessary, rather than put handicapped firmware back on my hardware...
hahahaha @ that I do concur sir! Everything about this is making me upset at BestBuy for having sold me a machine with a mobo that is locked. I guess that's how it comes from a major retailer: SPOONFED to you so they don't have to deal with you calling them about technical problems.

I do like this bios in the fact that right off the bat it tries to unlock any cores in your cpu that aren't already unlocked. It supports up to 6 cores so if i wanna get crazy I can sell this 4 and get a 6 (after i use it overclocked for awhile anyways ha).

Quote:I have yet to try the above, posted method, but I will post back if it is successful or not.
It works. I've tested it numerous times... Everytime I feel like wiping windows as a matter of fact. I've bought my fair share of windows 7 copies so if I have to use this tool I know that I can legitimately prove to M$ that I have a license for a particular machine.

what method / bios from here did you use? (first bios or slic linked bios?)

i'm trying to get one of these things going and it has the same bios version (0401) and a cm1630-06 board

also, lan still working?

Edit:

never mind i am stupid, figured it out right after i posted this.
Modded bios worked fine but i figured why not use the retail version so i forced a flash of those. everything is working on mine still so i am thinking the no LAN might be isolated instances or something else causing it. mine is a cm1630-06 board even.

its running a sempron 145 but the seccond core unlocked ok and its OCed to 3.57Ghz @ 1.275V. using onboard video and its throwing a wrench into things with going any faster on the OC

I've got the Essentio CM1630-05 and when I try and use the OP's modded bios I get "boot block in file is not valid" using Easy Flash 2

Edit: Nevermind followed OP's procedure worked great, never flashed from a windows environment before, thanks.
Oh and lan works fine

Start >> All Programs >> ASUS >> ASUSUpdate >> ASUSUpdate

From there: 'Update Bios from File'

Then select the file and flash.

I'm great with computers and following instructions but messin' with my bios is new to me and I have a question:

Is this the guide i should follow to replace my locked bios with the modded one attached to this topic?
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Ho...-DOS-Guide[/url]

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I'm guessing it has to be sorry if I'm being overthorough I would hate flushing all the $ I've spent down the toilet or setting myself back days trying to correct something I've messed up.

I have a CM1630 board, screen shot from CUPID Z.

I tried doing the ASUS Update method like the OP said but it says the image date is later than the current one and to use ASUS DOS utility if I want to do it anyway. Screen shot below.

I've tried doing a flash from USB with both file types of AFUDOS, AFU236U.exe and AFUDOS.exe, using Rufus and FreeDos to make the bootable usb stick however when I try to boot from the USB nothing happens.

I have Removable Device set for first boot choice in current Bios settings, but when it goes to boot up it just sits for a moment with the cursor moving down 3 times and then it boots up Windows.

What am I doing wrong?

SLIC has been updated on this retail BIOS to appear as OEM so that the OEM ASUS Windows 7 version stays activated.
**

Mobo: M4A78LT-M(CM1630)--Essentio CM1630 Desktop

Attached is a modified ROM, originally intended for the retail M4A78LT-M mobo, which has been modified so that its ROM ID and Model match that used on the OEM release, allowing it to be flashed to the OEM mobo. This modified bios will enable features that were stripped from the OEM Bios on the M4A78LT-M(CM1630) mobo. The modified bios is version M4A78LT-M-ASUS-0802.

This ROM will enable the following options in the Bios, previously stripped from the OEM version: JumperFree Configuration, CPU Configuration (core unlocker/unleash), NorthBridge Configuration, Memory Configuration, ECC Configuration, APM Configuration, HW Monitor Configuration, and ASUS O.C. Profile.

Flash at your own risk.

Firstly, thank you for making the modified ROM available.  Unfortunately, it did not flash.  The failure message that it gave me was different.  Now it says; "Boot Block in file is not valid!".  My next question(s) is obviously, "what is the boot block, where in the ROM is the boot block, why would it be rejected, and do you have any tools with which to directly modify the ROM image?".

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Using amd overdrive utility

NO temp:

It might be an address error from hacking the rom. It might also be ignored CPUTEMP in the bios. When you go into the clock settings in the bios (at least ASUS mobos) you should be able to enable and disable what address readings (i.e what temps and fan speeds show.)

Hope this helps

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to do all these steps unlock the mobo, but this thing is thing is very stubborn. I tried everything and nothing works still getting the INCOMPATIBLE message... I tried AFUDOS 2.41, 2.38, 2.21 through MSDOS boot - nothing happens, still getting the message on incompatible ROMID with existing ROMID. I downloaded numerous bios update files and some are even incompatible (note: all those files were downloaded from ASUS website according to my type of mobo M4A78LT-M. On top of that i downloaded a file from a post here saying it is modified for unlocking the features and all that and STILL NOTHING! I tried all these files through the E-Z Flash from BIOS and getting the same message.

Is there anyway to make it work? Or am I doing something wrong? Please help.
