Sabertooth X58 Bios mod
#41

Ive updated the firmware made by pir8man,

The attached ROM is exactly the same as his except these 3 modules have been updated:
Intel RST(e) RAID ROM v12.9.0.2006
Marvell 91xx AHCI/RAID ROM v1.0.0.1038
JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM v1.0.8.01

Ive been running it for ~20 minutes now on my sabertooth x58 and it seems ok.

Enjoy.

Thanks birthdayboy11

I am going to give this a go tonight. This is my first BIOS mod though. Do you recommend using the Asus EZ flash utility or using a bootable DOS USB and and AMI flash utility?

Thanks,

gsfancy

Ive been running it for ~20 minutes now on my sabertooth x58 and it seems ok.

Good Job on the updates.  I swapped out the RAID rom for the TRIM modified version...

ROM Version: 1402

Updated OROMs:
Intel RST(e) RAID ROM v12.9.0.2006 with TRIM in RAID0
Marvell 91xx AHCI/RAID ROM v1.0.0.1038
JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM v1.0.8.01

CPU Microcode updated for XEON processors.

EDIT: See post #50 for file

Thank you for that gold nugget, I had to join to be able to test this out. as as best as I can tell it worked fine once the firmware was flashed it said Complete successfully but it stopped in that screen, after another 10 minutes I decided to reboot and yey success, the only exception is the Sabertooth X58 specifications point to a Marvel 9128 chip and that is currently identified wrongly as a 9123 instead (maybe because the 9123 unmodified module was used instead?

This raises a question in my mind to whether that is significant enough to explain why a Samsung 840 Pro shows only 252Mb/s Sequential write attached to a Sata 3 port @6Gb and it shows 273MB/s attached to a Sata 2 port... so lost speed on a faster controller? ugh.

I also wonder why, when selecting a boot device in bios why IDE is prepended to the device name, is there anything that can be done here to show a real AHCI device? The actual Marvel chip is in AHCI Mode... I shrug, anyone have any ideas?

I wonder if its worth asking for a 1402 bios with Marvell 9128 AHCI/RAID ROM v1.0.0.1038  modified module for correct ID + MV91xx Bootloader module v1.0.1.0002b   + Marvell 91xx Firmware Pack (the actual version 2.2.0.1125b can be downloaded from here + JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM v1.0.8.01 for DEV_2363  + any AHCI fixes for those pesky IDE prepended thingamebobs if possible?!

Reference: http://www.win-raid.com/t7f13-AHCI-amp-R...dules.html
Note: Apparently the bootloader module is unmodified and works with dev 9123... I cant see any bootloader for the 9128 device... Sad
Quote:the MV91xx Bootloader module (in non-UEFI AMI BiOSes usually to find within the GUI line ID E6, the actual version 1.0.1.0002b kann be downloaded from >here<, uncompressed size: 51 KB, unchanged usable with DEV_9123, credits go to ZioGTS for the file).

If a kind soul thinks this is worth it, I would give it a wirl...

Thanks again and in advance and sorry for that slightly long read. Great stuff guys.

If the marvel 9123 is correct, then the above message still applies but if someone can please provide a modded rom which helps the bios actually respect the AHCI settings for the marvel chip so that when selecting boot devices you dont have IDE prepended to drive name.
Is this possible?

Well, Ive join win-raid and am now running with a mod provided by wasisdn a member of the community there with Marvel 1038 incl. FW 2301007 and Bootloader 1010002bv5 which is the correct combination for this.

Thanks again, fingers crossed I can solve my queries for this mobo soon enough.

Appologies for the necropost. Some of us (like me) may be using this board with a Westmere hex core xeon, and intel has released spectre microcode for them. Would anyone be able to point me as to how to update an x58 sabertooth bios, please?

https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-S...#pid103613

It is a standard BIOS file and can be updated via any of the available means.

sorry, no support for hackintosh systems.. their driver framework may (not) support these updated modules.

I was updating my current set of boards for Spectre/Meltdown bug and decided to re-update this old thread.  I do not use this board and cannot test the release.  ALSO, I do not monitor this thread as I do not own this board.  so PM me if you have any issues and I will look into any bugs found.

modded BIOS contains the following changes...

Marvel 9128 updated:
Bootloader: v1.0.1.0002b
Firmware: v2.2.0.1125b
AHCI ROM: v1.0.0.1038

Intel RST RAID ROM: v11.2.0.1527 or v13.5.0.2164 (TRIM Supported)

JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM: v1.0.7.28 (AHCI Patched)

Realtek 8187 Gigabit Network: v2.66

CPU MicroCode Updates:
106A4 Revision 13 (2015-06-30)   [No more udpates as Intel deemed unsupported]
106A5 Revision 1D (2018-05-11)
206C2 Revision 1F (2018-05-08)

SLIC v2.1 injected : ASUS Certificate

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Attached RAR has two files.  One has Intel RST v11.2.0.1527, which is recommended for all users except those that need Intel SATA RAID features in Windows 10.  Windows 10 has a minimum software version to manage the Intel RAID which required a newer OROM v13.5.0.2164 for compatibility.  This OROM functions a bit slower, so it is only recommended if you NEED Intel SATA set to RAID mode an you run Windows 10.

EDIT: Attachement removed

Thank for this. Just to clairify, which file in the rar is which? One is labeled w7 and the other w10. I am definitely running RAID0 under win10 and have been using a modded bios for years successfully. My bios doesnt have all of the other goodies that you've included, though. As soon as I hear back, ill test this out and report my findings.

Edit: Flashed the w10 bios and it worked fine. Thanks again

Another update for you Sabertooth X58 owners...

A bug/issue was found in Marvell firmware that broke compatibility with BIOS Drive Xpert feature.  Rolling back the firmware fixed the issue and gives the same benchmark speeds.  As this is an update to the code that runs on the Marvell Chip itself.  You will notice updating chip on first boot.  Once this step completes and you see "Update Success!", press reset to boot up normally.

Use the 'W10R' release if you run Intel RAID in Windows 10.  Use the 'ANY' release for any other OS setup including: Intel in AHCI with Win10.

Changes:
Marvell 91xx SATA 6G - Firmware: v2.2.0.1125 -> v2.1.0.1413 (Drive Xpert fix)
JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM: v1.07.28 (AHCI Patched) -> v1.0.8.01 (AHCI Patched)
