Toshiba C660 CPU & i7-2670QM
#1
HiĀ
C660 work good with i3-2310 SR04R, i5-2410 SR04B
But i have a i7-2670 SR02N and i dont know if it is OK. Notebook goes on, but no picture on it.
I need to check, if this CPU is supported by BIOS.

My little knowledge says they have same microcode and it should work.

TIA

1) remove AC jack, Main Battery, and CMOS Battery
2) remove HDD and all DIMMs
3) install new CPU
4) wait 10 mins
5) press and hold power button for 30 sec.
6) install CMOS Battery and one DIMM only, inject AC jack (without Main Battery!)
7) try to boot your laptop.
P.S. Attached BIOS has a microcode for CPUID=0x206A7: version - 0x23, date - 08/28/2011

I've made new mod of BIOS with updated microcode.

Got a problem.
I cant flash it, it says same or newer version already and flash exits.
I have to program ICs, will take some time.

Use Phoenix UEFI Winflash to flash it.
BTW: read WinFlash User Guide For Phoenix SecureCore Tiano. Use /sv to skip BIOS version check.

i3 is still working, i7 still not working.
There is high chance that it is damaged.
And there is small chance that C660 board cant handle i7, maybe insuficient power for i7.

Thank you for your help.

Hi All
I have a toshiba satellite C660 motherboard LA-7201P with an i5-2410M CPU, I'm thinking of upgrading it with an i7-2760QM. As I searched the 2 CPUs have the same CPUID so am I safely assume that it does not need to update the microcode in bios?
Also There is a difference in TDP from 35W to 45W but I am not wooried about thermals because it will be in a custom desktop case that I designed with adequate airflow and upgraded heatsink.
So, is it safe to buy the 2760QM or do I need a moded BIOS?
Thanks!

Post a screenshot of third (Mainboard) tab of CPU-Z.
i5-2410M and i7-2760QM use the same microcode.
But check the power subsystem on your laptop's motherboard.
So make a photo of the laptop's motherboard near a socket.
