[Request] Asus M2NS-NVM/V-M2NC61S/DP BIOS update for OCZ Vertex2 SSD
#1
Hi All,

I just bought myself an OCZ Vertex2 60GB SSD. Alas, my BIOS does not seem to support the drive. I have an ASUS V-Series M2NC61S motherboard with an Award V6.00PG Bios version 0801. The SSD is on the latest firmware (1.28)

I would really like for the board to support the SSD before forking out a lot of money for a new motherboard.

How can I get the SSD to work with the board? Can I get an updated BIOS to get it to work?

I already fooled around with CBROM, MMTools and the like but I fear that it is a bit beyond the scope of my knowledge to modify the BIOS myself.

Here are the specs:

Motherboard:
ASUS V-Series M2NC61S
Award Bios v6.00PG version 0801
BIOS chip: Winbond W39V040CPZ - 4548245002 - 614GAFA
BIOS notification at startup: 09/04/2007-NF-MCP61-M2NS-NVM-00
Chipset: nVidia MCP61

Location of original BIOS:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21050885/VM2NC61S_0801.zip

Any help would be greatly appreciated Smile

Hopefully Dansolo can help you out with this one, I'm not too sure what portion of the ROM wouldn't have support for the SSD already in it.

Thanks,

I'm not familiar with Nvidia chipset stuff. I'll try to research into it a bit when I get the time but I've been pretty busy lately.

Feel free to use/link/host any BIOS I post, no credit necessary. However, this is at your own risk and I take no responsibility. Always keep a backup of a known-good BIOS. Don't flash a motherboard if you don't have a backup computer just in case.

Always use RAID mode. RAIDFix

Hi TheWiz,

Thank you very much for your interest in my problem. I too do hope that Dansolo can help. It would be much appreciatedSmile Otherwise I might have bought myself a very expensive paper weightConfused

Are you using IDE mode? RAID mode? AHCI? Does your board even offer AHCI? If IDE, can you try RAID without setting up an array, assuming it lets you do that (like Intel does)? I've dealt almost exclusively with Intel chipset boards so far.

Hi Dansolo,

Thanks for your interest. My BIOS is somewhat simplistic of natureSad

I have two SATA connections on the main board and in the BIOS there is no RAID option. I can tweak some settings for the IDE devices but the settings for the SATA devices is minimal at best

I have looked closely at the BIOS and could not find any evidence of AHCI.

If you want screen shots (read photo's) of the BIOS screens let me know.

Hmmm...should I get myself a new board? And if so, is there a board that supports SSD and an Athlon II X64 and DDR2? I hate to replace board, cpu, memory and cooler just for the sake of having an SSD:S

Thanks!

I may be able to do something with it; not sure yet. But even if not, then you'd still have the option of getting a cheap RAID card from Ebay. Of course, not all RAID cards are going to be appropriate, but I can't get into that quite right now. On my way out the door now.

Hi All,

I know I said you didn't have to hurry. But I gave up on the board and bought me another one (Asus M4A78-EM). It still was not easy to get the SSD up and running but I finally got it to work this morning. So I won't need a mod for the M2NS.

Thanks for all your time and energy. It is much appreciated.
