[REQUEST] HP Mini 210-2000 - Whitelist removal
#11
Hi friend,
I haven't got time to study this bios, but I have to say few things . . .

Mini have 2 type of BIOS locks:

1) USB lock for WWAN cards on both slots

2) PCIE lock for WLAN cards on halfsize slot

So We have to patch all modules and We can try to patch Others . . .

Remove Whitelist Mod :

E62F9F2F-4895-4AB5-8F1A-399D0D9C6B90_985.ROM BiosLockPcie

02AA : 75 14 to EB 14
041F : 72 B5 to 72 00
07A7 : 75 F3 to 75 00

This is the Infinite Loop :

A million thanks for your reply!!!

So as the next step I shall just go through the other modules and check for the same types of locks and remove them the same way? If that's the case, then this gives me hope and it should be possible.

I will update you regarding my progress! Thanks again for sacrificing some of your time to look into this!

Thumbs Up
Hi again! I now tried to just patch the

E62F9F2F-4895-4AB5-8F1A-399D0D9C6B90_985.ROM BiosLockPcie module

When I tried to re-pack it, Phoenixtool gave me the "submodule to be inserted has invalid common header" error. I then tried to modify the file in a different directory and then copy it over, ran Phoenixtool as administrator, etc., however the error cannot be avoided. If I don't modify anything, the error does not appear. So I guess this is a result of trying to patch only one module instead of all relevant modules?

I saw some infinite loops in the lock WWAN module as well, however due to my lack of competence in that area I don't know what parts to touch and which instructions I am supposed to enter as a replacement Sleepy

Now I'm happy to donate to anyone who's capable of finishing the job and help me out of this. I've learned a lot over the last couple of days trying, but it seems I've run into a brick wall now.

Ok my friend,
doesn't desperate I am looking for complete patch your Bios !
We can try to start our tests with Slic 2.1 adding . . .
So We have to know why your PMTools cannot repack your Bios Mod.
Normaly I extract the module, copying It, from DUMP folder, then
do the modifies and repack all Bios using "No Slic" option into
Advanced !, simply replacing the Oiginal with Modded one into
DUMP folder when PMT ask to me to do handles.
We can use another Method : "Structure" Button !
Just open Bios and click on Structure so PMT will open FFV and
will show all modules, now We can extract and then replace them
one by one or only whichs We want to modify.
So You have just to training yourself with It.
Simpliest is 1st way so do as I said, then You have to look
into SLIC.LOG file (It's most relevant file) and You can find any
Module Name and infos, more all SLIC Data Informations.
If You are following me I will continue . . .
let me know

Got it!! Using the "replace" function and then using the modified module file that I extracted before that, worked!

I first got an error when trying to repack it; I checked why and found out that I had to use "Advanced" -> "Control Options" -> "Remove digital signature (ASRock EFI)". Once I used this option I could repack it and now have a modified BIOS file. (the other "Advanced" options I have already used since the beginning, are "Allow user modification of modules", "Always allow user modification of modules", "Allow user to modify other modules" and "No SLIC", just for your information).

Do you think it will be safe to flash this one? I will flash it before the end of the day, if it is safe.

EDIT: The offsets in the extracted module file were different than the ones in the file from the DUMP directory, but I found the correct offsets since I checked a big range of HEX values in the file from the DUMP directory and then searched for those in the extracted module; I found all three, made sure they are identical and modified them.

EDIT2: I was now able to do it without the "ASRock" error and option... apparently I was editing the wrong file at that time.

I justed went ahead and flashed it.

And the computer booted without problems! However it's still with the old wi-fi card. I will replace the adapter with the new wi-fi/bluetooth card and let you know if only modifying that single module was enough to remove the locks! Big Grin

Ok, tested it and still getting:

Dodgy

So there must indeed be more locks within the BIOS...

Thanks so much for all the assistance so far!!

Do you have any idea how we could manage to leave the "StartUpMenu" module as early as possible? As far as I understand this module does not perform that many important tasks and since I don't need the BIOS to display any error messages in case anything might be wrong, I wouldn't mind making sure that most of the code is skipped.

The same goes for the BiosLockPcie and BiosLockUsb modules.

Hi both,

Could one of you post the bios please? Smile I've just got a 210 and tried putting a spare Intel 7260 card in.
I would try and follow the how-to but I'm at work and not particularly comfortable doing it!

Thanks in advance,
Ollie
