Lenovo y580 Bios recovery
#1
Hi,

I flashed my lenovo Ideapad n581 with a custom bios to get rid of the whitelists.

I had no problems it worked very well.
But after I changed some graphic settings (I believe something like vram) my notebook wont start up again.
The only thing what happens is when I press the power button the fan spins up for about 5 seconds after that is goes off and starts again and so on...

I tried to recover the bios with a USB thumb drive (I followed this guide http://edmarhobby.blogspot.de/2013/02/le...reset.html) but it dint worked.

I have no ideas how I can solve this problem maybe someone can help be. It would be much appreciated.

Greetings from Germany

Adrian

hy to all

English is not my native language, so sorry if i do any mistake.
i did mistakenly flash bios (5DCN96WW v9.01) of g580 on y580, after that my hard drive not shown in bios and i couldn't boot into my operating system. i did more mistake and my laptop gone mini brick. well, recovered from technical service shop but now facing problem of dis-function of backlight. when i saw my laptop bios, there is difference between bios version and EC version. what should i do to make them same? you can check my laptop bios pic from the link below
click on it
http://www.mediafire.com/view/gh8l1m8m92...t_bios.PNG

additional information... UEFI setting not working. now using legacy for hard drive to boot window.
Bios version 5DCN90WW v8.01
EC version 5DCN96WW v9.01

lenovo y580
backlights and volume buttons not working maybe because of NVRAM not clear during roll back from wrong bios version. any help would be appreciate

Your laptop use Insyde as bios:

format an usb stick FAT32

download the latest bios from lenovo...

extract 5ecn96ww.exe with winrar

copy WinG5901.ROM in the root of usb stick

rename it QIWG5.bin

remove battery press for a few seconds the power button key

insert usb stick

connect ac adapter

press Fn+b (press this the whole time)

power on the notebook

The fan speeds up and after a short while the notebook starts to beep periodically

the notebook should shutdown itself

if doesn't work try QIWG5.FD or QIWG5 or QIWG5.ROM

Hello !

I flashed a modded Bios wich killed my Board. I had to send it to an specialist and he replaced the Bios Chips and flashed

Product Name: Lenovo Ideapad Y580
MODEL: 2099

Bios Version: 5DCN90WW(v8.01)
EC Version: 5DEC89WW (v8.00)

(i dont know where he got it from, cause lenovo doesnt support this bios version, even if they where installed at fist buy)

Now i got the problem that the laptop wont start, only if it was disconnected from power and battery for more then 30 minutes.

If i just start it normal, the power button is enlighted, but the keyboard light turns off after 10 seconds. no post at screen.
After 30 Minutes without power it works normal, laptop boots to windows. But when i restart it or shutdown and start new,
same problem: no post at screen.

The longer the "off-power" time is, the more i can reboot.
for example, over night its like 12h off-power, i can reboot 4-5 times till it falls back to no-post error.

I tried to flash the Bios with the version officially provided by lenovo (5dcn40ww).

- with dos-disk i get this error:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Welcome-FAQ...a-p/278406

"Error: Not support AT-p information CL Registry:0x0."

- under windows with insydeh20.exe i get this error :

IHISI: Get Plattform information error in SMI!
SMI Return Code: 0xEF

It means i dont find a way to flash it.

Any Ideas what the problem could be ? This "i just like to start after 30 minutes without power" is very strange.
Sometimes there a functions missing in bios like "secure boot" but its always the same bios version shown in bios.

Is it a problem when Bios and EC arent the same version ? Can i flash the stock bios 5dcn40ww to this hardware,
its the windows 8 model.

Please help me.

Thank you in Advanced,

Patrick
