ASUS Rampage III Formula Request

-Nate

srialmaster requested I build a test ROM with latest OROMs.

S18 CHANGES:
Intel ICH10R SATA RAID Controller: v13.5.0.2164
Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller - Bios : v1.0.0.1038
JMicron JMB36X Controller: v1.08.01
Intel 82567V-2 Gigabit Network: v1.5.43

These are the latest and final OROM that support R3F hardware.  Newer INTEL OROM's (NIC/SATA) are incompatible with the hardware on this motherboard.  JMicron and Marvell may release updates, but that is highly unlikely.

EDIT:  NEW UPDATED ATTACHMENT

Hi All,

This is my first time updating a BIOS with a MOD and hope this is the right place for my questions.

I have an ASUS R3F and just purchased two Samsung NVMe SSD 960 EVO M.2 250GB.

I am running Ubuntu 16.04 and installed the two M.2s, each on a separate PCIe adapter, with the stock ASUS BIOS 0903.

Where would I find the latest stable version of the BIOS MOD that would make the M.2s work?

I read the page  https://www.bios-mods.com/bios-update/ and made the DOS USB disk and copied the AMI BIOS updater, AFUDOS to the disk.

What is the the purpose of AFUDOS? Is it for installing BIOS MODs?

Would I download rampageiii-formula-asus-0903-s18.rom, rename it to bios.rom, copy to USB, boot USB DOS and execute "C:\afudos bios.rom /P /B /N /C /E /K /Q /REBOOT" ?

When I executed this command "C:\afudos bios.rom /P /B /N /C /E /K /Q /REBOOT" it returned to the command prompt with no error or other output, and it did not reboot. I then rebooted and checked the BIOS which looked to be the same BIOS 0903.

Next, I went to the ASUS EZ Flash 2 to verify and load the BIOS MOD ROM, this seemed to complete and reboot, but I could not see any obvious changes in BIOS version number or BIOS features.

Then did load defaults, restarted and a firmware updated one of the controllers.

Not sure where I stand if have just flash updated the controller or the main BIOS?

Okay, state of play is the NVMe SSD's are now detectable as Linux devices so problem solved I guess.

Where would I find a detailed procedure for updating the stable BIOS MOD?

Is it recommended to backup the stock ASUS BIOS 0903? What would be the recommended tool for backing up the stock ASUS BIOS 0903?

Sorry for all the basic questions, just wanting to get it right and avoid bricking my ASUS BIOS.

Great work to everyone involved in these projects, fantastic stuff.

I was updating my current set of boards for Spectre/Meltdown bug and decided to re-update this old thread.  I do not use this board and cannot test the release.  ALSO, I do not monitor this thread as I do not own this board.  so PM me if you have any issues and I will look into any bugs found.

Marvel 91xx updated:
Bootloader: v1.0.1.0002b
Firmware: v2.2.0.1125b
AHCI ROM: v1.0.0.1038

Intel RST RAID ROM: v11.2.0.1527 or V13.5.0.2164

JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM: v1.0.7.28 (AHCI Patched)

Intel 82567V-2 Gigabit Network: v1.5.50

CPU MicroCode Updates:
106A4 Revision 13 (2015-06-30)  [No more udpates as Intel deemed unsupported]
106A5 Revision 1D (2018-05-11)
206C2 Revision 1F (2018-05-08)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Attached RAR has two files.  One has Intel RST v11.2.0.1527, which is recommended for all users except those that need Intel SATA RAID features in Windows 10.  Windows 10 has a minimum software version to manage the Intel RAID which required a newer OROM v13.5.0.2164 for compatibility.  This OROM functions a bit slower, so it is only recommended if you NEED Intel SATA set to RAID mode an you run Windows 10.

EDIT: attachment removed due to space constraint. See newer release in post #59.

i backup the original bios and then flash the win 7 modded first using easy2flash . All seems goes well. Reboots normally. I did a cold shutdown just to make sure. It seems to be working. My ssd is
in marvell controller while 6 hdd on intel sata. Very happy. Would test the win 10 version soon.

i had problems with the sata 6g. The TRIM function is not on. When testing using my sandisk ssd the read speed were 340m/b but the write speed were only 169 m/b. If i plug it to my sata 2 ports my read speed is 230 ish and my write speed is 220ish. hope this helps

Another update, it seems that i could not install windows 10 x64 if i didnt disable the Intel Vt-d option in the Bios. I tested the win 10 bios and now running perfectly stable. Trim function on 6G controller did not work as told in the forums elsewhere. Had to switch to standard sata ahci controller. I installed Inspectre and confirmed the both option is patched except performance is slower. Other than that it works ok. I have to thank you pir8man for still releasing updates for this board. many thanks..

VT-d is in the BIOS core code.  It is broken and not fixable via OROM, nor MicroCode patches.  Only contacting ASUS an requesting a fixed version will resolve this bug.  If anyone does so, PM me with the results.

A bug/issue was found in Marvell firmware that broke compatibility with BIOS Drive Xpert feature.  Rolling back the firmware fixed the issue and gives the same benchmark speeds.  As this is an update to the code that runs on the Marvell Chip itself.  You will notice updating chip on first boot.  Once this step completes and you see "Update Success!", press reset to boot up normally.

Use the 'W10R' release if you run Intel RAID in Windows 10.  Use the 'ANY' release for any other OS setup including: Intel in AHCI with Win10.

Changes:
Marvell 91xx SATA 6G - Firmware: v2.2.0.1125 -> v2.1.0.1413 (Drive Xpert fix)
JMicron JMB36x RAID ROM: v1.07.28 (AHCI Patched -> v1.0.8.01 (AHCI Patched)

Once again pir8man.. thanks for the dedication and support for this thread. I will gladly honored to be your lab mice.. hehe.. I will test this tonight and will update you on anything i came accross. Its a shame Asus personnel did not give support to this board anymore. I'm in the waiting for my Xeon x5680. Did not have the budget for x5690. Currently on my 8yo i7 960.

(suggestion)
It would be wonderful for the next bios release you include the md5 or sha256 txt so we can verify the file more securely. of just post the md5 sha 256 values to your post.

thanks.
