Acer Aspire V5-531 Intel VT-X unlock
#1
Merry Xmas everybody,

I have an Acer Aspire V5-531 laptop which has a Intel Celeron B887 CPU. It supports VT-X but it is not enabled in BIOS.

It is using the latest Phoenix Securecore Tiano UEFI BIOS (I am running win 8.1)

I have tried following the guide at:

https://www.box.com/s/lc5rr102orp24osq78np

Phoenix bios editor complains about invalid rom length for all of the ROM files. Maybe the rom files are still compressed? I checked the uncompress checkbox.
Attaching the BIOS I am trying to mod. I just want vt-x enabled to use virtualization features.

Many thanks in advance for advice on how to unlock vt-x.

This request is still valid, but actually I just want the simplest way to enable VT-X for my CPU.

I tried to follow this guide:

http://habrahabr.ru/post/182676/

But it cannot find the EFI header string in the BIOS dump/ folder I extracted using phoenixtool

Hello

I also have an Acer Aspire V5-531 laptop (with Intel Pentium CPU, Win 7) and I'm looking for a BIOS mod to enable it for virtualisation via Advanced options.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems like we have several options, but I haven't suceeded in any of them

* Set the UEFI boot variable which enables vt-x
* Unlock advanced options via bios mod

I think just setting the vt-x variable is the simplest, and safest option.

So we just need to find out how to do that.

There are several guides out there. The russian guide is closest to what I think we want.

Also, there is this guide, which I also tried:

http://donovan6000.blogspot.se/2013/08/i...tings.html

It fails because the EFI variables are stored in a different way.

Just getting a correct, uncompressed BIOS dump would be a first good step.

I have tried using phoenixtool for this, but it seems I am doing something wrong, because the uefidump perl script from the russian article cannot find the section of the bios dump where the UEFI boot variables are stored.

--> Any forum help is greatly appreciated.

Also, any theories on why Acer did disable vt-x on this model?
