Hrm... Finally got around to installing this, and I have hit a snag:

"Cannot load driver .../Dell Inspiron 1501_A16_Dell21_\Win1501263\PHLASHNT.SYS.
Please check your accounts, if you have no administrator privilege, please log in again!
Access is denied.
Error code: 5"

Also I was getting, with the above message, instead of 'Access is denied, Error code: 5':
'This driver has been blocked from loading
Error code: 1275' (maybe the difference was when I tried to run with or without admin privs, didn't pay attention... *EDIT: Verified: When I run via double click I get error 5, when I RC/Run as Administrator I get error 1275)

This happens on an account that IS administrator, and also happens whether or not I run the .exe via RC/Run as Administrator.
I have also tried making a new administrator account with a password, same result.
FYI: I am running W7 SP1 x64, 2 GiB RAM
I added the log file containing each error type.
Any ideas?

SOLVED: I do not know what the problem was, but I got around it by using mini-xp via Hiren's Boot CD to run the phlash utility... I have successfully re-installed, but it looks like windows update is broken...

Ok

I know this a old thread but I found it looking for a answer. If anyone else wanders here cool, this is what worked for me =-)

I had the problem of not being able to update my BIOS from Windows too. When I tried I received the error "Cant load driver flashnt.sys"
This is how I overcame it. I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

The problem is the winphlash that Dell supplies is only for a 32 bit Os. I found a way to make it work through windows but you have to find a working copy of a 64 bit winphlash and edit its .ini file. Its a pain in the watoosi and its better to flash from Dos anyway.

Download a stock bios from Dell, make a folder on your desktop and move the bios.exe in it.
Double click on it. It will unpack.
There will be a file named FLASHABL.ROM rename it to  bios.wph
Download unetbootin
Run Unetbootin and select FreeDos  install it on your usb.
Copy bios.wph to the usb's root folder ( the first place it opens to)
Make sure your rig is set to boot from usb
When you boot to your usb and you come to a A:/  type cd C:/
Type  PHLASH16.exe and let it do its thing =)
