Hello everyone,
I’m asking for help creating a modded BIOS for my Huananzhi X79-8D (board version AA361).
Below is exactly what I did, what I’ve already tested, and the current situation.
✅ What I did
Made a full BIOS dump from a working system using AFUWINx64 v3.09.03.1462 (8DAA36.bin).
Opened it in AMIBCP v4.53 and unlocked hidden menus under:
Advanced → CPU Configuration
Chipset → North Bridge / DIMM Information
Memory Configuration / Timing Control
Changed all relevant entries to Show = Yes and Access/Use = User.
Flashed the edited file with AFUWIN (BIOS-region only).
After flashing, the board failed to POST: debug LED 71 / B4, no display, keyboard LEDs on, no USB activity.
⚠️ What I tried afterwards
USB recovery attempts
Several pendrives prepared with HP USB Disk Storage Tool (FAT32, 4096 byte clusters).
Filenames tested: AMIBOOT.ROM, AMIBIOS.ROM, X79A6005.ROM.
Key combos tested: Ctrl + Home, Alt + F2.
Behavior:
Without keys → codes loop (60 → 67 → 71 → 60…).
With keys held → stops at 71 (no USB LED activity).
Tried multiple USB 2.0 rear ports → same result.
Hardware inspection
CMOS cleared, battery reinserted.
POST behavior unchanged → still stops at 71.
Verified hardware health
CPU (E5-2690 v2) tested and fully working in another board.
RAM (8 × 16 GB ECC REG PC3-14900R) tested, stable elsewhere.
NVMe drive boots fine on this board with stock BIOS, so NVMe support is confirmed.
🧠 Current status
BootBlock responds to key combo (Ctrl + Home) → so partial USB init works.
But it cannot read the recovery file, likely due to restricted BIOS USB stack.
Board currently stuck at POST 71 with the modded ROM.
External reflash (CH341A + SOIC8 clip) will be used next.
⚙️ My configuration
Component
Specification
Motherboard
Huananzhi X79-8D (AA361)
CPU
Intel Xeon E5-2690 v2
RAM
8 × 16 GB DDR3-1866 ECC REG (QIYIDA PC3-14900R)
GPU
Zotac GTX 1060 6 GB
Boot Drive
1 TB NVMe (works on stock BIOS)
BIOS dump
8DAA36.bin available
🙏 What I’m requesting
Could anyone please make a clean, stable modded BIOS for the latest official Huananzhi X79-8D (AA361) version with:
Full Advanced / Chipset menus unlocked
Memory Timing & Voltage control (tCL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS, Command Rate, DRAM voltage)
Microcode update for E5-2690 v2
Full ECC REG 8-DIMM compatibility fix
(Optional) Improved NVMe DXE module
I can share both my BIOS dump and the latest stock ROM from Huananzhi for modding and will test and report results.
Thank you in advance!
