Insyde H20 bios gateway nv7915U

(08-18-2010, 08:45 AM)Sgt-Pepper Wrote: I might be wrong here but if it's an Insyde job shouldn't it be as easy as saving the top 1 or 2 MB of 4GB depending on bios size. For a 1MB BIOS that would be FFF00000-FFFFFFFF. In which case something like RwEverything should be able to do it for you.

i have rweverything loaded up...exactly what should i be looking for and where? i didn't see any of the options i wa looking for, but then i didn't go through every module either...?

TheWiz, thanks and please feel free to use it as you wish.

Johnksss another method you could try is download the latest flashit.exe for Insyde and run it under real DOS (not windows dos box) with the command line

Flashit backup.fd /g

A quick google finds http://www.mediafire.com/?2yizjqjetrz#1

Might not be the latest and it is for Acer but likely will back up your Gateway too if it uses Insyde. Just extract the flashit.exe file and use on bootable DOS media such as a flash disk. Be careful.

should i be changing this to look like yours?

edit
hummm, i tried all the bios programs to try and read my dump, but it's a no go.
going to try the flashit mode in dos

edit:
did the backup, but still can't read the file. it just sits there until about 10 minutes later saying..out of memory

If you used that start and end address shown in your RwEverything SS then that is incorrect. The end address should be FFFFFFFF and the start address will depend on the size of your BIOS. FFF00000 for 1MB, FFE00000 for 2MB etc.

If you successfully backed up with flashit then how big was the file "backup.fd" or whatever you called it?.

You could post or PM a link of your BIOS backup if you wish, but be aware that it will probably contain the serial numbers of your machine / disk drives, and I'll take a look at it for you.

What are you hoping to achieve by modding the BIOS?

Thanks TheWiz for fixing subscribed threads.
